I really like this article by Jennifer Simmons of FLW Outdoors-

Passion and sacrifice: tale of a dreamer

By Jennifer Simmons - 12.Dec.2006

As any pro will tell you, bass-fishing fans carry with them a very distinct impression of what it?s like to be part of a major tournament circuit. Although somewhat na?ve and overly simplified, the theory usually goes something like this: You get oodles of sponsor money, sport fancy gear, stay at the top hotels, eat at nice restaurants and then show up at a tournament with a fully rigged, top-of-the-line bass boat and go fishing.

And if you?re good and a little lucky, the theory continues, you?ll be seen by millions of viewers hoisting a six-figure check on national television.

However, rarely does the casual fan take into account the dreamer at the campground down the road who?s eating tuna out of a can for the fifth night in a row while trying to sort plastic worms... continue on FLW Outdoors

Good article Dan. Kinda reminds me of one night I stayed over in Alpena at a campground in a tent. There was a tornado watch and high winds with rain from about midnight until 3 o'clock pm the next day. What a night and tournament. Made me wonder what I ever wanted to start fishing tournaments for. :-\' But it was fun in a weird sorta way.

So many memories. I've already forgotten some good ones. I need things like this article and everyone elses' stories to remind me now and then...

Some of them haven't been what I would call good, but I don't think I'd trade them.

Glad you liked the article. I did too.

Man does that really hit home!

It is a daily battle within, and those question run through my head a hundred times a day.

Five years ago, I sold my house and bought a bass boat, I moved back home with Mom and Dad. I have been able to pay off the school loans and credit cards. Only owing on my boat and truck.

I pray every day for God to show me the path that he has set for me.

And at times... I think I am just one big break away from being able to push on.

I think that I have convinced everybody but me, that I can do it. And that's the hardest part.
