Went out to chippewa lake in mecosta county yesterday and did some good. I had never been on the lake before so I had to do a little lakemap studyin before I went out.

I decided to start fishing a spot where it was sand up at shore and had some quick drop offs to 15 ft and the wind was blowing hard into it. I'm determined to become a good jig fisherman so I put the old senko and soft plastics away and brought out the jig rod with a Nemesis 3/8oz jig. I started nailin largemouth the second cast. The second one i caught was 20inches and had to weigh close to 4lbs. But, while i was flippin that lunker in the boat i snapped my brand new Mojo Bass rod! bummer. after riggin up one of my backups with a jig, i ended up catching around 10 quality largemouth from that spot.

I had to get out of the 15-20mph wind for a sec so i went to fish some 8ft flats. I really didnt hit much on the flats. a few here and there, but nothin real big. I also tried out some 5ft flats with some pretty good weeds and didnt hit anything.

It was a good day, even with a loss of a rod. water temp ranged from 58-61. I threw some senkos.....some crankbaits....and a few spinnerbaits, but the Nemesis PB&J jig is what they were craving!

Great report. Sounds like a nice day fishing. Might have to try that lake sometime.

liprip that lake is one of the better ones in the area if you want to learn to fish a jig...the fish up there flat eat them...i fish it about 10 times a summer other than the 5 or 6 tournaments i fish up there..15 to 20 pounds is a common winning weight up there...but stay of the north shore and leave my fish one...lmao

Hmmm... so I should fish the north shore... thanks for the tip!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
