I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Lowrace waypoint sharing

Lowrance has a great new feature in their new models that allows you to share a waypoint on one GPS unit with any other units that may be attached to the "network".  That is awesome!

My question is - can you share files from one unit to another?  I store all my waypoints in files organized by lake.  Every new tournament I have to load the file on both of my GPS units.  Is there a way to copy the file from one unit to the other - like the waypoint sharing?

Genie, you can't transfer whole files on the network itself.  Since the network transmission is all done through NMEA sentences the information transmitted between units is limited only to NMEA 2000 data.  The .USR file format that lowrance uses isn't NMEA standard.

Have you tried loading the .USR file with both units powered on? When a file is loaded the same signals are used to create waypoints on the master unit.  In theory it should be repeating those waypoint messages accross the network and the waypoints should also be created on the connected units.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll give a call to someone at Lowrance.  There may be another way to "trick" the unit into sending those NMEA waypoint messages across the network when the file is intially loaded.

I don't think I have tried with both units on ...  I'll try it tonight.
