I'm disappointed to see now that House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee Chair Representative David Martin has added those very bad commercial fishing bills HB 5801 and 5802 to an upcoming committee hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at noon.

The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

I've always felt I do better on hula grubs in stained or dirty water than on tubes. The opposite is also true for me, I seem to do better on tubes in clear water. Have I convinced myself wrongly?
Look past what they want you to see.

i have good luck on hula grubs in all water... but i think they do better than a tube in the murk because they move more water.

In theory, hula grubs should do better than tubes for the reasons stated in water that isn't very clear.  But then sometimes, they don't want a lot of movement.

I've used both in clear water, and both do well.  Depends on the day and the fish.
If the water is really choppy, I tend to move the tube more.  Snap it, twitch it, and move it around more.  When things are calm, I sometimes just kinda drag it along.
I watched a video (Stricker's I think) that talked about shaking tubes while they rest on the bottom.  (If it wasn't him it was Woo Daves).    Technique is similar to the shakey worm only the tube doesn't float up at all.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.
