I've got a 2000 Johnson 90 that will run 5800 rpm at 52 mph (speedo, not gps) if i trim it up enough, the boat has a great holeshot as it is, but I am wondering if this motor should be running that high rpms. Do I reprop to keep it in the 5500 range and  hope I don't actually lose speed 'cause the low hp, I won't be towing skiers so the holeshot does'nt need to be what it is.
The prop is the stock aluminum and I was running fully loaded with my son onboard also and a full tank of gas.

I got a 90 yamaha on my stratos with a 17 pitch prop rpm run 6000 I only get 45mph. I put a19 pitch prop on my rpm run 5500 but no hole shot and only get 47 mph. I mean holeshot is bad.

5800 at WOT is not bad for any 2stroke.  I suggest you borrow a handheld GPS and confirm that those last few hundred RPM's that you are getting are actually increasing your speed.  A lot of times you are just adding slip(more rpms & same or less speed) if you over trim - especially with an aluminum prop.
