Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

As I have never fished St. Clair before in my life would anybody like to give me a clue as to what type of baits and what colors to use this weekend. I'm going as a nonboater so I can't take everything. Just need some general ideas. Thanks Bill

Tubes, colors- smoke purple, green pumpkin orange, St.Clair goby Should cover the color spectrum. Spinner baits, rattle-traps, and maybe a few top water depending on how muddie the water will be.

Tubes and a variety of jigheads.

Color - I think I remember a saying about tube color on St. Clair and Erie and it goes something like this..."You only need three colors of tubes for great lakes smallmouth....green, green and green!"  I am sure there are a lot of guys with favorite colors other than green, but if you stay with green as a base color and maybe have some w/ orange flake, blue flake etc you will be just fine.  Also try to have a couple different size and style tubes as that seems to have a bigger effect than color to me.

Also - be prepared to be chunking and winding spinnerbait/traps, jerkin' jerkbaits and maybe the most important is Senko's if there are any bedding fish.

I have to concur - Tubes in  green pumpkin anything.  Also jerks - hard body and soft fluke types.  Senkos are also deadly, as well as a hula grub type bait.
