Newton February Bass
« on: February 22, 2010, 12:45:04 PM »

Cabin fever hit the breaking point for a bunch of us guys on the board so we got together and headed to Newton for 3 days. The weather was great, Saturday it was warm enough to fish in a t-shirt. We found the bite to be tough atleast for our group. Out of 7 guys fishing 2 days and 3 fishing on Sunday we caught a total of about 20 over 18 inches biggest going 4-10. Still a great time but not what we were expecting, you had to work hard to get bites. We could not get bit on any moving baits, slow soft plastics were needed except for the biggest bass of the trip that came on a spinnerbait early. Nemesis baits were hot especially the new shakey worms which produced most of the fish on this trip. It was a good time and will hopefully make the wait for spring alot easier.

The first day started off tough for us.  We tried cranking and flipping and got some bites but no hook ups.  I tried several different color jigs but the fish just wouldnt commit.  finally, it was time to do what i really did not want to do.  i grabbed the shakey rod with the Nemesis Shakey in green pumpkin/ red flake.  literally started putting fish in the boat immediatly.  later in the day, they got on the jig bite and we ended up catching about 20 fish between the 2 of us and 5 of those being Newton Keepers ( 18" or bigger ).  Only got a couple pics but here they are.

(note the water from the discharge in the backround, thats where the fish were.  we pulled 2 keepers out of this spot and 4 other fish that all went between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs.  the current was insane and the fish were in there waiting for something to wash by)

What a great time. I broke off on a 15 lber ( inside joke ::) ) and even caught a good one on a topwater.  In February!!!!!!!!

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.

Here is a Newton 3 lber or so I caught Friday night.  Luke and I found a pod of fish in the cold arm and we were catching them good as it got dark.  We had to leave to get the boat out of the water before it was too dark.

Can't wait to go again!
