I'm disappointed to see now that House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee Chair Representative David Martin has added those very bad commercial fishing bills HB 5801 and 5802 to an upcoming committee hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at noon.

The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Not if you will know this video, but I have surprised like with the temperature to the one that must be the water, this fish shows activity and present the fight that you can see. To seeing that it seems to you. Regards from Spain.-

Very nice. Fish need to eat and they can be caught.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I have fished Lake Lansing twice in the past week. We had some Golden Shiners on Tip-Ups and caught a few nice large mouth, of course we were actually looking for Pike.  The next day we put Perch on the tip ups and that was a whole lot better. We caught Pike and largemouth. The one largemouth went over 4#.

On a side note. I heard from a guy out there that Grand River Bait and Tackle, which is pretty much the only place in town to buy shiners, is selling shiners that have VHS.  Don't know the truth of it and don't know much about VHS but, one of the Pike we pulled up had red sores on the belly and a blue color on the nose which I was told that was how you determine if the fish has VHS. Can anyone confirm this and tell me what to look for on the fish to know if it has the virus or not? I go out there quite frequently now because it is so close to campus so I'm going to keep looking for these signs. (By the way I am in no way bashing GRB&T, I just heard that they were going to be investigated based on probable cause)
