I'm disappointed to see now that House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee Chair Representative David Martin has added those very bad commercial fishing bills HB 5801 and 5802 to an upcoming committee hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at noon.

The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

own a 02 Triton TR 196.  lose most of my livewell water on high speed runs, any other boats incurr this problem?  fix ?

Plug the livewell drains.....Sometimes you have to plug the overflows also if in rough water....

I just run the Livewell fill and that keeps it at a safe level...

Lightningboy

There are two overflow drains on a shelf at the stern end of each box.  Plug those while running fast or in rough water.  My 2K tr21 will lose half the water if I don't when running in big water.  If you still lose water, you've got a plumbing leak.

Only run the recirculate while running.  If you run the fills while at speed, you're only sucking air.

My boat has a livewell pump in that is what I meant by fill.(my boat pumps water into the through a fill pump that is seperate from the normal aeration..It is a pro aeration system,,It will continue to pump in water even while on plane...actually have to be careful not to overfill the wells while running..
I never even open the normal fill valve except for draining the system....I probably should have been more clear...

In rough water runs, I always plug my overflows, and then leave the pump on for 5 or 10 minutes before I leave.  This fills the wells to overflowing, removes all of the empty space above the water.  I find that the water sloshes much less when it is totally full and the fish don't get beat up or stressed as bad.

Kind of like shaking a milk jug that is half full vs a jug totally filled to the top.
