I'm disappointed to see now that House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee Chair Representative David Martin has added those very bad commercial fishing bills HB 5801 and 5802 to an upcoming committee hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at noon.

The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Was looking through my tackle inventory today. Seen some brown craw tubes from extreme. Looked alittle closer and thought about some situations where id love to have that color. something i picked up and never really thought too much about. has certain qualities that id like in a certain situation. My point; i was lookin on Xtremes website and did not see them. do they still make them? if not who wants to sell some?-skeeterman-

I'd have to say that picture isn't the best representation for Brown Craw.  It's hard to capture the subtle nature of this bait in a photo.  It has a green pumpkin back just like Great Lakes Craw just with small orange flake added in.  The belly has clear plastic but the true copper flake bleeds into the plastic to move it toward a brownish shading.

I have some left but when I get low on a color like this that I probably won't remake this year, I don't push it hard so that the folks who have used it and call for it have a better chance of getting it.  As of right now I have plenty.

This color has distiguished itself on some inland waters and is a regular producer on the Great Lakes.  It really turns on after August.

Fellas, I recently made a treacherous trip up to the Novi show(from Cleveland)and purchased some of Wayne's tubes and hula grubs...bought 25 of each color including the new perch. They look like bass catching machines and CANNOT wait till spring gets here to try em out.The thing that I noticed second was that they dont have salt added or have any scent.I really like the Mega Strike scent and normally use that. What would you guys reccomend?Store them in salt?Or just add the scent when using?

That's a yes to salt in everything I sell.  If you're thinking about the skirted grubs they do have salt in them, just not so much as to have the bait fall apart like some others.  The factory uses a fine salt and the only way to tell it's in the bait is to...well...let's just say the flavor is there.

As far as scent goes, I've seen scent turn fish off and scent turn fish on.  I leave that up to the individual angler.  Thanks for the kind words and fighting through the poor conditions to make it to the show.

Next one is at the Outdoorama in Novi and I'll have more Great Lakes Perch at that time.

I soak all my tubes in Gulp, dont know if it gives me an advantage but it can't hurt.

im all about mega strike.  in my opinion it is the best scent on the market for multiple reasons.  I say stick with it, it has never steered me wrong.

McCarter himself :-\'

Cy

I don't use or really believe in sent.  If you think about the amount of scent you can put on a bait in contrast to the amount of water in a lake.  You are talking about 1 part scent per millions of parts H2O.  Any water based scent for the most part is washed clean by the time the bait hits the bottom of the lake anyway and in a river, is washed down stream so fast nothing could smell it.  An oil based scent that sticks to the bait doesn't ever dissolve in the water.  That fish would have to have that bait up it's nose completely to even notice it.

You guys should check out the book Knowing Bass by Keith Jones.  Very interesting ideas.  Jones is a Berkley scientist now, maybe working for Berkley has changed his ideas these days.

I would like to see common bass, not in a tank environment, react to scent better than no scent.  Then I might change my mind.

I do... because Steve Clapper and Mike Trombly told me to ;D

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
