Is it illegal to fish for bass in Canadian waters of Lake Erie before the season opens? I could not find anything about a C & R season in Canada. Is the third Saturday in June the opening date? The reason I ask is because yesterday I watched some bass boats going over the Ambassador bridge like there was a tournament this weekend. Thanks

Revtro

I am unaware of any C&R season in Canada.  I believe you cannot fish for bass before the official opener.

Ohio waters of Lake Erie is C&R until the last Saturday in June. You cannot target bass in Canadian water at all until then. Although I've seen people around Walpole Island catching and keeping smallies in May, but I believe they have different regs for them.

djkimmel

Walpole Island regs mirror Ontario regs for the beginning of the bass season. Ontario has a similar regulation to Michigan - you can not legally catch or attempt to catch a fish that is not in season.

Michigan waters of Lake St. Clair - Detroit River open the 3rd Saturday in June while Ontario and Walpole open the last Saturday in June. Sometimes they are the same day and sometimes they are not like this year.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
