This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

I'm working on planning a bachelor's party for my brother and we want to rent and cabin the 2nd weekend in April to do a little fishing. Was looking at the Gun Lake area but I have never fished down in Southwest MI. Any other good lakes to fish at around that area and how is Gun Lake itself. I looked at some old tournament results and it seems like it's a pretty tough lake. Was also looking at Gull Lake but again not to familiar with it and not sure what to expect. If anyone has any ideas or information about the area around there it would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Never fished Gun Lake but I've been on it during a few tournaments and it does appear to fish tough during the summer months. Might be better in April though?

I like Gull Lake! Fished it a lot in the past though not the last few years. How good it is and how deep or shallow the bass will be in early April depends on the weather. You can often see the bass if they even move up on the deeper flats though because it is so clear.

Hopefully some other members will know something about Gun Lake that early in the year to help out.

Not sure how far south and west you want to go but the St Joe river gets rocking pretty good with Steelhead and Walleye in April...Just a thought...It is busy on the weekends if the fish are running..
I know this is a bass site but love the steelies..

Nothing wrong with providing some alternate and varied information about various opportunities...
