Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Heading north end of next week to fish with dad. Staying on Mullett. Tips on fishing Mullett, traveling/fishing Indian River and Burt lake would be much appreciate! We are also thinking about fishing Douglass lake. We were there a few years ago and launch was not good. Has the launch improved? Tips on fishing Douglass? Thanks!

djkimmel

I have not heard of any improvements to the ramp at Douglas Lake. Some don't really want more people fishing there probably so they don't want an improved ramp.

Fish rocky points. There are plenty of fishing reports and videos on this website about Mullett Lake and the area in general up there if you do a search on the forum. Good luck.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

The Douglas launch is the same as always and probably won't be improved...

Fish the rivers!  This time of year the fish are relating to the river current.  They will hold in holes, on wood or rocks in any of the rivers.  If you can't find them there, then look deep.  Don't be afraid to explore 25+ fow, they should still be in summer pattern.  Good Luck.

You say that and the SAME day a 9.98 pound smallmouth bass is caught out of the Indian River! You must be a genius!

On a live nightcrawler.    Bet it will be crowded up there the next couple weeks.   Like Hubbard last year.

The Alpena Club is hosting a Hog Hunt on 9/25, 25 boats.  I wonder how many guys will go to Burt as opposed to Mullet?

djkimmel

I prefer Mullett for numbers and agreeable 'normal' bass but Burt does seem to have the bigger bass overall. Still there's plenty of big, big bass in Mullett Lake. I caught my biggest at 6-12 there back in 2005. Caught more 6 pounders from Mullett than any other single lake. I would think this means Charlevoix, Torch and other big bass lakes won't be as crowded? For awhile.

We have our club classic launching out of Indian River on 9/24 & 9/25. Will be interesting to see how many boats head to Burt. Monsters in both lakes for sure. Anyone know which launch Alpena is using? We'll be launching out of Tuscararo down from the Burger King, 15-20 boats.

bwebber

robhj,  I'm pretty sure we're using the same launch.

robhj

Good to know. Might get a little tight with parking. I think it only has 18-20 parking spaces and I'm sure they'll be non-tournament guys there as well.

That's going to be one busy little boat ramp...

Hubbard Lake will be vacant for the rest of the year.

Thanks for all your input. Had a great weekend with dad as the weather was beautiful. Unfortunately the fishing was tough. We both caught a nice smallie in the 3# range but finding them was once again very difficult. We didn't take it personally as we watched all the boats fishing a tournament on Mullett and didn't see a single fish landed the entire weekend. We tried it all at all depths and never located them. Great father/son time though. Enjoyed the river. Tried to fish Burt but it was really blowing and tough to hold the boat. Spent all the rest of our time on Mullett.
