The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Any interest in holding an open for charity?

Admitedly I don't know what it would take, but I was wondering if we'd ever have any interest in hosting an open tournament.  Maybe a St. Clair event with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.  Or maybe a club on club event similar to the MBI deal, again with money going to charity.

Another thought is hosting an event for underpriveliged kids.  I don't know...I guess I'd like to see our club do something worthwile like that once a year.  It think it would be very rewarding.  Any ideas or interest?  Would we need to be insured to do it or anything like that?  Just starting to think about it.  Thoughts...

Also, do we know a worthwile charity or youth program that we could get involved in?  There are many youth homes with kids who would love to go fishing for a day.  I really enjoyed being a part of the one Anthony Adams held last year on Cass for Crossroads.  Maybe we could look at Promise Village.  They are a great program for at risk kids.

Tom,

A couple of things...

One - the "joshimoto son" foundation could use your help. I mean the guy is still living at home with his Mom and Dad! Poor Kid.

Two - You might want to look and see if you're covered under the TBF. Although our club is a Federation Nation Club, we're cover for insurance for the Charity Opens we have.

C- If you do have one, I would be willing to donate some bags of soft plastics raffle prizes.

Tom:

sounds like a great Idea-  couple of thoughts come to mind - one, if its an open  to raise $$$, which is fine - I think it would be more serious fishing during a set of hours - would it be a pairing type thing with one of the kids?  or a club or team thing?  Gonna be tough this year to schedule, although we could use our club overnight weekend date to have an open one day(sat), and the kids out for fun on sunday - or other way around depending on popular vote?  Lets see how the thread hashes this out, and go from there.  I am sure the TBF affiliation will cover the insurance on this, but I can double check when we get closer.

Whatever you come up with is fine for me, it sounds like a good idea.

I just got a call back from Promise Village home for kids.  It's a home for at risk kids and kids who have gone through horrible life circumstances.  They are a very good cause.  I first got exposed to them via Comedy for a Cause that happens every year in Troy.  Anyway, I heard from their program director who is all for it.  She thinks it's a great idea and wants to pursue it.  I told her I'd find out the particulars and see if it's something we might be able to do.  Anyone want to help research this?

There is a wonderful group of mentally challenged kids across from Waterford Mott. Kids born with a challenge and they too went through some poverty induced and ignorance induced lives.

I can check into it. I really like getting the underprivledged kids to the waters and get fish on their lines.
Thanks Dan for bringing year round Catch and Release to Michigan
