I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I am new to this forum I recently joined.i am looking to by a new baitcaster for crankin.i was looking at as lowered 5.1 gear ratio.i was woundering about the new curado or the quantum exo.i have an older curado and like it.I also have a lews and like it.anybody have any input on them two.

Manxfishing

The new Curado is to make up for the so so "G" model mistake
And it's by far there best Curado
Comes in 7.2, 6.3 and 5.5 (but the 5.5 is right hand only)
Problem would be getting one for a while

I myself like Shimano's
And have D5's just for cranking

I have noticed that it is hard to actually put ur hands on a curado they seem to be hard to get.i did run across the higher gear ratio and I think it is super smooth and a bit cheaper than the quantum that I like

YpsiBass

The new Curado I is limited availability this spring.  If you're lucky, you can get in on the clearance deals on the Curado G that a few retailers are running.

The ones on sale are for the most part not high speed reels either.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

You couldn't give me a Quantum.  Poor reliability compared to many other brands out there.  Shimano, Lews, and the Revo lineup from Abu Garcia are far better reels.

Do yourself a favor, hit a big store that sells them all and play with them.   I currently own about 8 Curado's, one Revo Premier, and an older (read: better than new models) Quantum Energy and the Revo is the best reel of the bunch.  The quantum works great, but it's heavy as a tank and to put it in auto terms, it's has very low miles on it but I would never buy another one.  The Curado's are bullet proof.

I have been looking at the new lews and I am starting to side more towards them.i have one now that I like just woundering if there is a huge differents in the $100 baitcaster versus there $200version.what model do u guys like the most I want to be able to really fling the crank baits.I am also looking for a 5 to 1gear ratial and not all of the lews models offer that, what are ur thoughts??

BIGSHOW

I like the lew's also. I have the BB1 5.1:1, 6.4:1 & 7.1:1 and love them all for their certain job.

In general
The more you pay, The reel is smoother (there's more bearings) and they get lighter
You can get away with a cheap spinning reel, But for the BC buy the best you can afford

mike12

I ended up buying the lews for 199. And used it for the firs time yesterday and loved it.thanks for the help it was a good choice.i also got to pull in a 5lb er with it.it was a good day

Skulley

For cranking and especially deep cranking I like a 4.4:1 if you can find one.  This retrieve speed helps get the bait down as deep as possible.  Line size matters too but you really need to start with reel retrieve speed.  Everyone has a preference and you are really going to have to try out a few before you decide.  There are some brands out there that still make a slow retrieve speed.  Some are Browning, Quantum, and Lew's.  I have all three brands in a 4.4:1.
