Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Does anyone keep a reference binder?

I was thinking about starting one, something the I can store good articles in from magazines, for easy access rather then having to flip through a stack of magazines.  Also could be used other tips and such that I find on the internet.  Reference pages on knots. Club rules and rules. Fishing Log  Etc...

Does anyone do this or is it because we store everything in binders at work I'm thinking of this?

I have thought about doing that.  I got the idea from Mike Iaconelli.  He talks about keeping a binder like that in his book he wrote.  I mentioned it to a friend and he said you could also scan those items and store them electronically on your computer.  I like both ideas but I haven't done either.  ;D

I focus on location specific articles, also keep a lot of video tape.  When you get a good collection you can follow the evoloution of fishing techniques on particular fisheries.  The old espn flw tournaments are the best for research purposes.  The newer shows are geared more towards the weigh-in and aren't very useful.

Cy - you can scan them to your computer and "attach" them to the Media Management module in your Angler's Genie software so it will organize them for you.

I do keep a small binder that is just for Lake St. Clair.  I keep all of my weekly newsletters (Combat Fishing) for the past couple of years.
I also keep a set of the marked maps that Wayne sells.  In addition I keep pages of GPS coordinates I've found on the internet, and some by myself.

I know that if I'd keep a log, maybe use something like the Genie that it'd prove very useful no matter what lake I'm on. Trouble is, I'm a school teacher.  By the time summer gets here I don't want to record any more data.  I just want to fish.
Maybe after I retire?

I keep a journal, stuff I've written. I don't keep any magazine articles.

I do have a decent DVD collection going though.

fiker50,
I used to be a school teacher a while ago - I feel your pain!   ::)

Bottom line is - garbage in garbage out.  If you put poor effort/time/practice in, then that is what you will get out.  Fishing is supposed to be fun.  Tournament fishing is a different ball game.

I'd love to sell everyone here a copy of The Angler's Genie, but that just isn't possible.  However, if you are willing to take the time to record the info, and study it, you will get better - whether you have the software or not.
I think with the Genie, it is easier though.   ;D
