kgr624

7' quantum pt tour medium action Rod
quantum tour edition baitcaster
with P-line flurocarbon (100%) 8-10lbs

windy day a change over to a spinning set up with a quantum pti 20 reel with 8lbs P-line Flurocarbon with a 7' st Croix avid series medium Rod

Favorite lure is a 7.5 culprit worm with a 1/8, 3/8 #3 jig head
Your either getting better or worse you never just stay the same

fishon1219

6'9" st croix Avid medium light action with a shimano stradic 100. I use a homemade 1/16-1/8 ounce jig head with a 4" berkley power worm in camo color and I cut the tail. I use 6lb seaguar floro. I like the light line, that is why I use such a whippie rod. You dont have to set the hook with this rig, you just lean back on it a little bit and they are stuck.

Hey Fishon,
What style of hook and size you using?

Fishing any weedless hooked plastic requires more than a lean from me.  That works fine for drop shotting w/ exposed circle hooks, but I'm gonna stick that shaky head with a little authority.  It's just my preference, but I hate watching them big fish come out of the water and toss a skin hooked bait back at me!

I should have explained a little more. My set up is and exposed hook. I use a ball head jig with a #1 eagle claw I believe it is a style 571 jig hook. I am able to pull it threw weeds pretty good, but because it is so lite it dosent really sink that far into them. The hook is so small it takes little pressure to get it set into the fishes mouth. I have had a few come unbuttoned on me, but who hasent. I am just very confident in this set up and I have been using it since the late 80's. Works for me.

Depending on where i'm fishing i'll either use a St. Croix Avid 6-9MLXF spinning rod with a Symetre 2500 or a 7-0MF Avid Spinning rod with the same reel. I'll generally use 8 or 10lb Seaguar or Sunline Sniper FC...

I want to experiment with Daiwa TD-X 6-10 MLF Finesse/Dropshot rod this year as well... Joe Balog, if you're around here shout me a hollar, i'd like to ask you some questions about these rods...

I'll use the heavier rod and line around stuff... for example at a tournament this season I was fishing old docks with a bunch of junk with the shaky head and I use the heavier stuff to get them away quicker...

As for a jighead, i'll use Provider Tackle Performance Series jigheads in 1/8 ounc or 3/16 ounce and Art has also developed a series called a "Cut Head" series that has a flat head to stand up, i'll use some of those this year...

I'll use a bunch of different worms for this anywhere from 4-6 inches...

I guess I always called the exposed hook the "slider rig" or "jig/worm".  The Shakey Head is something I have started to fish with the longer shanked hooks like those on the Spotstickers or the screw head jigs from McCarter's(formerly known as Poorboy's) guy.  But whichever head I used, it was always rigged weedless (snagless).

For light cover I use a GLoomis 783S 6'6" medium action rod paired with a Shimano Stradic 2500MgF spooled with 8# P-Line flouro or mono. My bait of choice is a Zoom finesse worm or a Yamamoto 6" cut-tail worm rigged on my own 1/8-1/4 oz. shakeyhead jig with a 4/0 Gammy.

For heavier cover I use a GLoomis MBR843C 7' MH rod paired with a Shimano Chronarch 100SF spooled with 12# P-Line flouro or mono. My baits are the same and the jigs are a little heavier, 1/4-3/8 oz.
Peace.
