I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

So what is the real difference between these 2 units?
Remember you don't quit fishing when you get old, you get old when you quit fishing

The only difference from what I heard is the hd has the LED screen which costs about $400 more. PM me and I can share where I got mine just a few weeks ago...form rules I think...

motocross269

CMU ross is right...it is just the LED screen...There are some great deals out there right now on 998s

bigjc

So what is a "great deal" on a 998 si

dartag

Got one last week. Can't wait to get it mounted and learn to use it.

motocross269

My buddy has an 1198hd in his console and a standard 958 unit at the bow...We were looking at them this fall and to be honest I didn't see an overwhelming difference between the HD and standard screen...It is better in the sunlight so I think it could make a difference for the bow unit but for the console unit I don't think it is worth the extra 400 bucks for the HD...

bigjc

I am jealous,  an 898 has been on my wish wist for over two years, and still nothing.

Rangerman

Just put new 998 si and 788 Birds on the old Ranger with eithernet?? link.  ;D Love em. BUT you will be wasting money putting DI on a front unit with transducer on TM. The Birds have a soft ware problem and they WILL NOT WORK on front. They did do the right thing as refund the diff of DI and send a new unit. ???

Firefighter Jeff

Hmmmm seems to work fine on mine.

I haven't heard of such an issue...All DI really does is take 2D and convert it to the DI image...I have fished out of quite a few boats with DI and I have a new DI unit waiting to be installed....hopefully I am not missing something but this is the first I have heard of it..

Now SI you need to be moving at a certain rate to get the images to come up right which is a challenge from the TM...

bigjc

Have any of you bought the unit and then paid for install?  If so, how much is the going rate for installation.  It appears that the install is quite laborsome.

Installed myself.  So simple a caveman can do it.  lolol  No, not really.  I'm sure it's worth it for some to have them installed.

dartag

I would also say easy to install.  Hard part was drilling more holes in my boat.
