Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

I was just wondering if me and gmetime24 are the only lefties in the group?

All my reels are lefty too! I'm a right hander but when I started out, I used left handed baitcasters so I would never have to waste time switching hands.

Dan

I'm a right hander as well and have all left handed bait casters. I do have one that is a right hand crank just for those times when it's a crankfest and I need to give the left hand a break.

fiker

I too am right handed and throw all left hand reels. Bait casting and spinning.

I've never understood why anybody would do otherwise.

It's too much work and wastes too much time to switch hands.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Got Fish??

I too am right handed and cast with my right hand. Being an athlete, I always throw, with my right hand. Seems right to me. I don't want my left hand to be jealous. So, I let it reel in the fish.

BIGSHOW

Seems like you have more control with your dominate hand (right),with the rod. Then just crank as needed with the left.

PineLk 49

I am left handed. Spinning reel is left handed but my bait caster is right handed. When I throw I use my left and put my right on very bottom of rod. Helps load the rod up for longer casts, then switch my spinning rod in mid flight. Ya I know I do alot of stuff bassackwards

EKennedy

I'm right handed but I crank lefty.  I snowboard fakey and I am left-eye-dominant.  Like Fiker...I too get mixed up when i try to crank right and switch...too much to concentrate on at one time.

gmetime24

I always liked staying with the left handed crank even tho I'm dominate right handed. I grew up using spinning gear and all my reels had the handle on the left hand side so it feels better to stay that way with my baitcasters. Plus I like holding the rod in my dominant hand and like BIGSHOW said, I have more control that way. I guess I passed my thoughts on to jjjmpv22 and now he does it too.    ;D

Waterfoul

If you crank left, you aint right!   :D
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Lightningboy

Righty crankin' southpaw too.

Grew up with spinning gear and was used to it.  Seemed like a waste of movement to switch hands with a baitcaster.

Been too many times pitching shoreline cover I've been bit right after the lure touches water; I think I might have missed those fish switching hands.

Used to be the devil to find left baitcasters.

My latest favorite for pitching is a Scorpion 1501 with an engagement bar.  Just like you push down to make a cast, you can push forward to engage the reel.  I don't even need the left hand to engage.

FishermanJohn

Lefty here - all of my reels are right-hand retrieve though.  I am far more accurate casting with my left arm.  I grew up with a spinning reel that I switched to right-hand retrieve and lever looked back.

Hooksetter

I'm right handed and I cast with my right hand. My spinning reels are left hand retrieve. My casting reels are right hand retrieve. I've never had any trouble switching hands with a casting rig, whether casting or pitching. It just feels right to me.

Willie
Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

bsimpson

I'm right handed, but all my spinning gear is set up left handed.

Redbone

tminer

I am a righty but retrieve with my left hand. It makes me feel like i have more control over setting the hook lol, but it can be a pain in the butt to find the baitcaster i want in a lefty.
Everyone should believe in something...I believe i'll go fishing.

Lightningboy

Uhhh,

What's normal?

And be honest, you hang around here... ::)

Redbone

Left hand on spinning. Right on Cranking. It does make more sense to crank lefty. But It just doesnt work for me.
