Dan

Do they make one with a butt seat?

Funny you should ask about this... I had an angler lined up to start a new section devoted to that specific topic back around June or so. He was perfect for it as far as his experience and dedication to that type of fishing but something happened. I know how things can change for people so I put off the idea for now until I have more time and/or find someone who can be an active resource for it.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

There are times I wish I had a kayak to get into certain places!!!!

jjjmpv22

I have had a kayak for two season now and use it quite a bit and plan on using it a lot more next season. My plan is to get another one this winter so I don't have to go alone as much next year.

jjjmpv22

It would be nice to have a place to put my reports and other material specific to kayak fishing.

djkimmel

I may get a kayak someday. Add some more variety in my fishing. I would probably have to learn many new habits since I like having gear with me AND I'm pretty good a tipping things and falling out of or over stuff.

The fishing reports sections aren't limited to boat owners. I've had a number of shore fishing reports mixed in there. Sometimes, having too many sections isn't necessarily a good thing but IF I could get an idea that I would have some consistent and numerous reports specific to kayak fishing I would consider it.

I don't want to add new sections that only have a handful of posts in them though I do want to attract more kayak anglers. It's one of the many challenges I think about often - when to expand to attract more visitors verses providing a spot for visitors I already have.

I may try to see how many kayak anglers are already visiting the site if I can get them to respond, and do a little promotion of the idea to see what the present and potential future interest level is.

I love fishing out of mine.  I really enjoy it on small lakes and for getting back in the hard-to-reach areas.  I do not have it rigged out with electronics like some of the 'yaks I see online.  I basically use it for fly fishing or just carrying a 1 or 2 rod set-up and a small amount of tackle. I'd be interested in seeing some people's setups.

jjjmpv22, are you anywhere close to Livonia?

jjjmpv22

I live in Saginaw so not too far. I am the same way for the most part no electronics and I just carry two or three rods. I have a small 8ft sit on top Coleman kayak. I have taken to fish on small ponds, big ponds, the Chippewa river, Houghton lake, Portage lake, Muskegon river near houghton lake, the cut river.

djkimmel

That's two of you so far. I have heard from another. I may look at setting up a new section for next spring at some point.

Topwater fishing is fun out of them. I replaced my old town sit in kayak with a ocean kayak big game sit on top.Very wide and stable with plenty of storage.

Sit on tops are so much easier to get on (in). You just have to roll on and roll off. Nice for old fat guys like me.

djkimmel

I think I'm going to be good at rolling off...

Mojo

If I roll my kayak with a fish on, am I considered "top water ", 'shallow crank,' or just a ' jerk bait' ?  :)

Serious - Dan - how else are you going to attract specialty fishermen unless you have something they 'need' ?
Thanks Dan for bringing year round Catch and Release to Michigan

djkimmel

I think I won't answer the first question...?? ;D

As far as the second, it isn't quite as easy as just making a spot. If it was, everyone would do it. I will create a spot as soon as I can if I have a few hardy souls willing to get some interesting starting content in it including maybe some pictures, even a little video maybe..? I have a potential person with that kind of content and knowledge I'm talking with. I don't have that kind of content or knowledge. Other than I expect to be an expert roller...
