I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Came home from a tournament yesterday and one of my wheels was smelly hot. Checked the bearing buddy and it was very low in grease. Not knowing a thing about those things mechanical, do I need to worry about that bearing? Do I just grease it up. Will I know if it's shot?  Thanks in advance.

Dan, 1javelin had the same problem about two weeks ago and his mechanic said it was the axle seal going bad. When that happens the grease leaks out and causes the wheel to smoke and smell awful. The way you explain it sounds like that might be the case.

FISH HARD!!!

Dan

Hey Tim,
Thanks for the info. How do I tell for sure? Can I fill it with grease and drive it to see if it continues to heat up. Guess I probably can. If it falls off I have a tandem trailer so I'll still have a tire on that side :) Next tournament is Cadillac. Will be prefishing next week. Take care and thanks again.

The only way to tell for sure is to take them apart and clean the bearings. Once they are clean of grease you can tell if they got to hot.

If you need someone to do the work let me know, I've been doing some work out of my garage on the weekends.

If your running all over the state, I would recommend replacing the seals and repacking the bearings. They can catch on fire if they get hot enough.

If you try filling the bearing buddies first, be sure to use exactly the same grease that is in them now.  Don't mix grease types.  If you don't know, the advice cwinsiii gives is best.  Take them apart and inspect them.  They might be OK but since you already have them pulled apart, install new ones and keep the others as spares for road emergencies.

Dan

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help. I may get adventurous and try it on my own. My probably is a total lack of confidence when it comes to things mechanical. I am up at the cabin and do have some people to call if I have a problem so maybe I'll be bold. Thanks again.

The info I had is $25 per boat winner take all. The last I talked to my buddy there was six boats not including me and that was last Saturday. They should have more boats by now, I sent my number.

The check-in is by 6:30.
