I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

All summer long my elbow/forearm on my rod hand was giving me trouble, after the DK open I could hardly lift my arm below the elbow. I just assumed I had been over-doing it, so I let it rest and today I went out and after just the first hookset I could feel it starting again. Anybody else suffer from this? I assume it's tennis elbow.

Anybody  know of a qucik fix (brace, etc) as I am leaving for the keys on the 25th?

I know the feeling. Never had a problem untill this year and then this spring it started in my left elbow. Halfway through the summer left started to feel better and then the right started and I was in pain with every cast. Doctor told me to ice and rest it. Right.... I did buy one of those elbow bands and they will help. I also bought a neoprene sleeve and that also helps. But, the doc was right after a substantial time like till about now my elbows both ached like a toothache. They are just now slowly getting better and I hope before the spring rolls around that they will be better. My doc said that in some people they don't get better and it becomes a chronic problem. I have researched the web for info and really haven't found anything other than the elbow band, ice and rest. If someone else out there has any remedies I know that there are a number of my fishing friends that have the same thing especially those of us that are long in the tooth.

I have a buddy that had the same problem... for two years it just wouldn't go away.

He eventually had to have surgery... after duck season of course.

Don't let it go too long. Just in case you get in the middle of a season and have no option but to miss out on the rest of it because of surgery.

I have a very similer problem I have torn both rotator cuffs and it hurts real bad after casting alot, I have found a great remedy I only fish 3 days a week and give it 4 days of rest instead of 4 days fishin and 3 days rest ;D

I had the same problem.  This is most likely Tennis Elbow where the small tendons start pulling away from the bone.  The elbow band is a great idea.  It worked like a dream for me.  Go to CVS and look for them where the Ace Bandages are located.  It's just a simple band that you put on your forearm just below the elbow.  If possible, try to find the one that has the little air filled plastic piece in it that will put pressure directly onto the area where the tendons are pulling.  It really helps if you can find this type.  Not sure exactly who sells them.. I got mine from a friend.  My doctor said not to push it.  Just take it easy, wear the brace... after a couple weeks, I felt totally fine.  You up your chances to need surgery if you don't take it easy and wear a brace.

Cast... I also had a Rotator Cuff injury.  I feel for ya... it was one of the most painful injuries I've had.  I can't imagine hurting both of them.  Hopefully they weren't at the same time...

My tennis elbow just wasn't improving like I would like to see it so I went back to the doctor's. He said they use to inject chronic tennis elbows to ease the pain, but injections weaken the tendon and are not a long term fix. He says he got rid of his with exercise. Soooo, I'm off to the physical therapist this afternoon to see what they have to say. I'll keep you posted of what they do and recommend.

I've had the problem with my right elbow the last two years. Had the Doc give me a cortizone shot last Feb. and it went away until about July. It started flaring up again and by August I could hardley straighten out my arm. I've been doing a series of exersizes. They seem to be helping. (Put the boat away Nov. 1st also) Check out this artical.

Must be hell to get old ;D I don't know about my elbows hurting but after working a jerkbait for 4 or 5 hours my wrist start to get achy. Im also a mason so I should have strong wrist.Im only 21, but if it gets worse with age im in for it.

I had a similar problem two summers ago.  It came; I think, from fishing my baitcaster, and painting the bedroom.
I was so bad that if I scratched the back of my neck with my right hand, I'd have to use my left hand to get it down.  I couldn't write on the chalk board at school.
I ended up in Physical Therapy.
My therapist diagnosed it as "fisherman's elbow".  She said there really wasn't such a thing, but, the muscles and tendons involved were not the same as tennis elbow.  When I showed her the motion I use to cast, she said that that had to be it.
My therapist had me use one of those straps that I'd put around my arm (forearm) just below the elbow.  This helped the strain quit a bit.  I didn't think it'd work, but it did.  I also went through about a month of therapy with her.  She gave me excercises  to do, and I did them religeously.
After the month with her I could even pull my bow back in time for the October opener. :)
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Well I have been suffering this problem for the last month or so. I don't recall doing anything to hurt it. I could hardly bend my arm at all for about a week. I can somewhat move it now pain free, I just can't lift any weight with it at all, ie lifting a pot of coffee causes me pain. I have been resting it, applying icy-hot and ice packs. Like I said I can move it now, just can't put any weight on it, o and the top of my forearm has now gone numb, thinking that's no good, any one want to let me borrow there health insurance?  ???
