Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Just before the October Natural Resources Committee meeting on Thursday, October 9, Commissioner John Walters added an amendment to Fisheries Order 206 – “Bass - Closed bass CIR season from May 1 – Friday before the third Saturday in June for Burt, Mullet, Crooked, Pickerel, and Black Lakes and their connecting waters.”

MS Outdoors Opens - Late Summer/Fall 2012 SW MIchigan

The MS Outdoors Opens will consist of a 3 tournament series in SW Michigan that will conclude with a classic on October 21st. The entry fee is $50 big bass is $10 (cash only, 1st plus 2nd big bass at each tournament). $5 from each entry will go into a Classic Fund and the remaining $45 is paid back directly at the ramp. You only need to fish 2 of the 3 tournaments to qualify for the classic (1 sub is allowed per team so you personally may only need to fish 1 tournament to qualify). All tournaments are from 7:30-3:30. The Barron Lake tournament has a 10 boats maximum due to restricted parking but the rest are open to as many boats that wish to fish.  Attached is a flyer with more information.

Sunday August 26th Diamond Lake
Sunday September 16th Barron Lake
Sunday October 7th St. Joe River Benton Harbor (DNR Launch by high school in the No Wake Zone)
Classic: October 21st, TBA Entry Fee $50 big bass $10 (plus the $5 per boat from the other 3 tournaments)
