The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

I am coming up with my Dad and Brother for some Fathers day weekend fishing.  Bringing another boat along for their first St Clair experience.  Would anyone be willing to share any current reports?

Depth?  Location?  Bait?  We are just fun fishing and going to release everything.  It seems the fish are deeper than I expected.  I plan to drag tubes and throw the occasional drop shot and deep crank.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Skulley

Fish 8 to 12 fow just about anywhere along the mile roads throwing the baits you indicated you were throwing. You may also want to try a jerk bait and spinnerbait.

I was out yesterday and the bite was tough.  The high wind and rough water didn't help.  I don't know if it's looking like a windy weekend or not, but I recommend bringing a drift sock so that you can fish if it's windy.  To me it still seems like the bite is better the more South you go.  There may be a decent wave of spawners between 9 Mile and Masonic if the weather stays stable this weekend, but things seem better South of 9 Mile.  Although there are some decent areas around the dropoffs at Point Huron (Metro Beach) that have plenty of fish on them right now.  They're easy to find on the map.

If the weather is good and the wind is down, venture out onto the main lake.  Fish are starting to show in summer areas.  PM me and I'll give you a little insight.

It does seem like the fish shallowed up yesterday.  I was finding them in 12FOW as opposed to 14+ the previous week.  Xtreme St. Clair Craw was the ticket.  The weeds are coming up making cranks a little more challenging.  I tossed a spinnerbait for a while with no takers yesterday.
