Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

I have a TR-186 Triton w/ 150 mercuryXR6 and when I hit waves my RPM, Trim guage, and voltage meter dials go down as if the motor was off, but my engine still runs and when I hit the waves a slight beep happens at the same time the meters indicaters go down. Sometimes I can't start the motor and then I will hit the trim button on my gear shift and then I can start it. It seems like there is a wire tied into all of these, any help?

Sounds like you have a loose connection on a wire that is feeding these components. It is probably intermittenly loosing contact and thats why the gauges drop and pick back up when contact is reachieved. Check your battery connections and follow the leads and make sure they are tight at any buss they go to. Also if any component is shorting to ground it will draw the voltage down and the others components may not work properly if the don't have the voltage to run them.

You have wing nuts on your battery?  If so, take them off and throw them away.  Head down to the hardware store and pick up stainless locknuts.

Also, pull the cowl and check the grounds to the block.

I am no expert thats for sure.  But I would say its a ground issue. Or lack of.  Good luck.

Pull the side switch panel, and check for a small relay in the wiring.  The relay can go bad, and breaks it's internal connection when you hit the wave.  The relay is a standard auto store type, just take it in and they'll match it up.

The other guys are right about a loose connection, especially the battery.  Ditch those wing nuts!
