I'm going to be replacing the carpet in my boat as soon as I can. I have never done this before and could use some guidance. I dont really expect anyone to come help me, although I would buy lunch/beer/pop/ etc. All I really would like is some advice. Anything special I need to know about taking the old out? Anything that makes it easier? How do I prepare the surface once the old is out? Whats the best way to measure and cut the new? Just stuff like that. If you have any help for me, I will PM you my number, if you dont already have it. Thanks in advance, you guys rock.

I found some pre-cut carpet kits on ebay a while ago. The kits come with pre-cut carpet, installation manual, a carpet knife and blades, and all the pieces are labeled as to where they go and the correct direction of the grain. They also sell the glue for the carpet. Just google "a bass boat parts store" click on the first match and it will take you directly to there ebay store.

I did mine a couple years ago.  It was a JOB!!!  I need to find the resources I used to do it, once I do I'll shoot a note on it.  I remember you will need, some big sharp scrappers (home depot), some acetone for the tough stops, an orbital sander, couple of carpet knives and a box of band aids!  I cut my fingers several times with those stupid knives!  I learned a few tricks along the way too, I need to share with you.  The downside is I NEVER get to the Flint area.  Let me get it all figured out and we can talk later this week.

Check the BBC restoration forum too.

There are several things about carpet replacement on Bass boat central in the restoration section.  I've done it a couple of times and it's not hard.  One needs to take his time and remember when he's cutting to use a sharp knife.  put new blades in whether you think you need one or not.  A real sharp knife is very important.  if your doing in the winter you need to be in a heated garage for the glues curing time.  if you can save the piecees you take out you can use them for patterns for the new.

that's all i will say about carpet replacement

I don't know much. But I do know NEVER to use indoor outdoor carpet that is looped.  ;) I made that mistake, any time a lure touched the carpet it was hooked and the carpet had to be cut. I was, (am), such a dumb..........

His carpet will have no such issue.  Marine capret meant for fishing boats.

I need mine done, but I'm not going to attempt that. My livewell hatch covers are defective on my 97 Astro. They are hinged in the middle and are deteriorating. I hate to even step on them. Any of you guys know a shop that does that type of repairs. Astros and Procrafts are not built anymore so I'll probably have to have them fabricated. Yea the BBC has a good article on carpet restoration. I'll  try all kinds of mechanical repairs but I don't know about that carpet job.

Original song and lyrics by "MadWags"

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.

Mike,

I guess my only peice of a advice is use a digital camera and take as many pics for references later.  The obvious break it down into sections and photograph as much as you can.

I photographed everything when I pulled my Minn-Kota to bits and glad I did.  After pulling it apart it took 7 weeks to get the parts and I am certain I would have forgotten everything by then. :-\'

The other reason it would make a good topic to follow on here so we can check out your handy work.

Good Luck!!

Colin
