I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Welding hooks

Anyone ever tried to weld or solder the eye of a hook? I have had braid slip through the gap in the eye of a hook on more than one occasion. I tried supergluing it, this works for awhile and then cracks and flakes off. I also tried using some mono and purposely tied a knot into the gap, this doesn't work so well.
Open for any suggestions

In that Bass Movie...I can't remember the name of it..Takahiro (SP) is shown soldering his hook eyes together...He is just using a torch and some solder...
I would think it would be a good idea..You would want to use just the right amount of heat because hooks are carbon steel and too much heat will harden them and make them brittle...
You are going to have to clean the eye of the hook well with sandpaper and use a flux to get the solder to stick..
I have never done it but have thought about giving it a try....

You should be able to do it as motocross said. But watch overheating it.  And dont quench it in water to cool it off.  Let it air cool. *Just start using trailer hooks! :P

For heavy cover with braid I use the BMF hook from RI, already has a welded eye.  I've also heard you can snell a hook with braid and a non-welded eye and it won't pull through.  Hope that helps.
