Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Just before the October Natural Resources Committee meeting on Thursday, October 9, Commissioner John Walters added an amendment to Fisheries Order 206 – “Bass - Closed bass CIR season from May 1 – Friday before the third Saturday in June for Burt, Mullet, Crooked, Pickerel, and Black Lakes and their connecting waters.”

Nine boats showed up for what turned out to be a big fish bonanza on a beautiful November day on Kent Lake.

1st place McCarter/Fowler 5 fish 20 lbs 13 oz $590

2nd place Yancey/Will 5 fish 17 lbs 9 oz $220

3rd place Reault/Reault 5 fish 17 lbs 8 oz

4th place Wilson/Ron 5 fish 14 lbs 10 oz

5th place Shaw/Mortenson 5 fish 14 lbs 3 oz

6th place Dobson/Garza 5 fish 14 lbs 2 oz

7th place Shiklanian/Shively 5 fish 12 lbs 10 oz

8th and 9th did not weight in

Big Bass McCarter/Fowler 5 lbs $90

Here is a pic of our 20 lb bag.  I was so excited i almost screamed like a little girl when the scale went over 20.

you nailed it john, we got lucky.  first time for everything.  caught them on someone elses spot using the secret bait for november.  TOPWATER!!!  i never thrown one of those topwater baits before.  was lots of fun.  you should have been there.  but once again the sniper hides well.
