I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

McCarter

Dwayne,

Were you guys swimmin them on the bottom of just under the surface.  I wanted to break the BLTs out on Kent the other day and never got to it.

Beer?  I will call you soon

McCarter himself :-\'

DDBethke

How is your new Ride?

Beer? Yes Please and soon!

The BLT Swimbaits....We swim them on the bottom 85% of the time on St. Clair like a tube, the other 15% is targeted @ Suspenders whichis not my favorite option.

On Kent though (especially Pre-Spawn) I highly suggest Swimming a Suspending Swimbait (Optimum 4") parallel to the shoreline to pull a staging Fat Lady!

Dick,

Hopefully D & R will carry these soon (still TBD however)...

If that is too far of a drive for you (not sure where you are from?), we hope [REMOVED - see No Links Policy List] will have them late next week!

Note: this color is availible in all of Optimum's Swimbaits sizes and styles (including the 3" Heavy Cover Series which can be drop shotted! ;))

Thanks,
Duane

Can you show me how you have these rigged for fishing the bottom??  And are you just dragging them or working them in some way??  I've seen a little video footage of golbies and they seem to dart.  Was wondering if you tried to mimick that.  Thanks

Jeff,

There really is no wrong way, and I mean that... It really depends on how you are fishing and what for (Brown or Green fish). Here are a few options that are solid producers for me...

Ex#1 Smallmouth
If you are on Lake St. Clair or Erie and it is windy, I drag them EXACTLY like a tube. I just slightly (not past the barb) push one of the trebles in the bait so it is lined up correctly.
Ex#2 Smallmouth
In clear water with no wind, you can cast the BLT's a mile (the weight is molded into the soft plastic) and swim them slowly. If you are fishing St. Clair in 12' or deeper I like to let it fall on a semi-tight line and the paddle tail kicking on a slow (dying) fall has really produced some great kicker fish for us in the past couple of years.
EX#3 SM and LM
Bed Fishing - simply drop it on a bed, escpecially as a follow up to any break off or missed hook sets
Ex#4 Largemouth
This one some may not agree with me on, however I believe a swimbait is a great pitching bait. What I mean is when fishing heavy weeds and targeting open pockets I have caught some VERY good sized LM's pitching the 4" Suspending model (with one of the hooks buried in the body of the bait which allows it to be very weedless) in to pockets. It creates a good reaction bite as it falls as the paddle displaces water. It's like trowing the a Steak :o

Thanks,
Duane

Dueane, thanks so much for taking the time to write up your response.  You kinda lost me on the first example.  You mentioned, treble.  Are you talking about using a treble hook as a stinger on that rig??  You've given me great exampl;es of how to work them, can you explain a little on how you would rig them??  Thanks in advance.

DDBethke

Jeff,

Does this help?

Let me know if you have any other questions...

  • Also, South Street Tackle in Bellville now has the Goby
    color in stock!
  • Hopefully The Nautical Mile BP will have them soon as well...

Here is a recent picture of them (5" BLT, Original Optimum, 3" BLT) next to a live Goby (was live) :-X.

This image shows why the "Micro" Gold Fleck is important.

My goodness, what great pictures, thanks a lot for going to the trouble to post.  If your fishing near the bottom, does the treble hang up much??  Maybe I need to go back and reread your post on how to fish them.  lol
