I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I will be going there this week not really sure where to start i will be fishing for largies or smallies. Ive fished there once in the spring but really know nothing about fishing there in the summer. Just wondering if someone could be point me in the right direction.

Thanks

DDBethke

You may need some patience :-\'!

I haven't been on it much this year, however if it fishing the sam it can be tough.

Check deep points, rocky areas (from 1' to 6'), etc...

Good Luck!

Last week it was pretty tough for everyone. No big fish caught, but there are some toads in there.  Most people fish stick baits (sickos, senkos, etc.), drop shot, and jigs around stumps.  You'll find the stumps around some of the islands.  There was also a topwater bite last week, i couldn't find it though  :-\' I'm definately not an expert out there but it's a fun lake to fish if you find 'em.

BK46 I might be out there Sat morn let me know if you are around and maybe we can both find them. I should have a back seat open if someone has the need to fish.

Kent has been tough.  its post spawn so that goes without saying.  Wacky rigs and topwater seem to be the most consistant baits out there for us right now but there is a jig bite as well.  problem is, there in that funk where they crush your jig but when you set the hook, there is nothing there.  the fish below bit me once and i missed and pitched back to the spot and just felt the slightest tick and set the hook and she was there.

Your best bet will be to fish where the bluegills are spawning in the morning with topwaters and wacky rigged baits ( might i suggest Nemesis 5" Sticko in KLK color )  and then move off shore to the outer weedlines and main lake weed beds as the sun gets higher.  If its overcast, throw the topwater and dont stop all day.  i have been getting them pretty good on a Super Pop R.  They are hard to find but Cabelas has them and other than that i buy them on Ebay.  But a poppin bait is getting more strikes than walking bait for me right now.

If you throw a jig, cut the skirt down and use a small trailer.  if you are getting bites but not hooking up, switch to a small craw lure and the smallest weight the elements will allow.  be patient with the jig and you will be rewarded.....maybe!  the jig bite on Kent can be iffy.  I threw it for 3 hours last Tuesday and never got one to go.

Caught this one tonite on our 1/4 oz Upskirt Jig.  Watermelon/Green Pumpkin with just a smidge of orange.  Got a few others on it as well but this was the only one that was worthy of a picture.  it went 5.7 on an X Tools scale.  Sorry about the blurred out backround but i cant be giving up my super dooper secret spot.  At least not two weeks before the next Midwest Div 20 tournament.

Going for smallies will be tough.  we had 9 boats last Tuesday and only one smallie was weighed and i am pretty sure it was from a bed.  The smallmouth usually disappear for a while after they spawn and then come back around mid summer skinny as halibut.  Takes them til the end of August to start fattening up.

Bring a can of corn with you just in case the bass arent biting.  you can have a ball with the carp right now!

If i can swing it, i will be out there.  Look for me in a Blue Skeeter ZX200.  Stop by and introduce yourself and i will throw you some hot baits.  On the other hand, the wife could very well put the kibash on my plans.

McCarter I think mine might barely edge yours out by a few ounces...I think that one weighed around 5.9  ;D I just had Langer photoshop it to look a bit smaller.

I think i might go pick some gobies what colors do you recommend?
For St.clair and Erie

TCook

Nice Hawg Brian, maybe there are a few big ones in Kent afterall.
FISH HARD!!!

DCP (Dark Cinnamon/Purple) is killer on Erie and in the Detroit and St Clair Rivers.

Green Mist and Great Lakes Candy are really good on St Clair.

KLB is also really good on both bodies of water but I only catch walleye on it in the SC River :(

KLK is our best all around color.  It catches fish everywhere.  Best inland color hands down.

Real Goby is the big fish color.  Many 5 and 6 lb smallies caught over the last 2 years by our team members and customers and even a few my myself :)  Here are some pictures from a guy from South Carolina who was just up to Erie recently.  Here is what Real Goby did for him.

Not bad for an out of towner ;)

Time to go get some gobies LOL. Where can i find your jigs? 3 inch or 4 inch for the gobies?

McCarter

they are avaiable on our website but we dont have many pictures of them up right now.

we offer 1/4 oz, 3/8, oz and 1/2 oz and we have the new Mini Skirt jig which is 1/4 oz with a 2/0 hook for a smaller profile.

here is a picture of the jig and we can make any color (except fugly, sorry TCook :( ) if you dont want to order from the website you can email me ( brian@nemesisbaits.com )and let me know what you are looking for and either send a check or use paypal to pay if you want to buy.

this is PB&J but we do it a little different now.  PB&J now has a brown head instead of the beigeish like in the pictiure.  also, we use a green pumpkin weedguard.  But the pic shows the head design and the screwlock trailer keeper off good.

You can see a few other colors on our website here

http://nemesisbaits.com/home/color_chart.html

like i said these are only a few colors we do, we can literally make anything you need.

Sorry for changing the topic of thread back to kent lake.

Figures the makers of the one skirt material that seemed to make a difference for me went out of business shortly after I started using it.  :(

What do you mean no fugly!!!!  I loved that color at the show, and I was going to order some, I just had not got around to it...will you be getting it back in the line-up?

TCook

JC unfortunately from what I have been told the makers of the hydrosilk skirts went out of business. From what I found this spring that material is different than any other I have used. If you let it sit it slowly flares out looking very lifelike and enticing to any bass that is thinking about eating it. The fugly color was with out a doubt the best color they had to offer, it was greenish brown and in the water a greenish flake would glimmer as well close to the reaction innovations roadkill color and the nemesis mean pumpkin color. Of course when we heard this news me and a buddy bought everything McCarter had left which was not much.  If anyone knows where I can find any of these skirts that might still be around please let me know. Even better if anyone has some fugly jigs sitting in there box that they are willing to part from send me a PM I will give you a good price for them.

Tim, i know the action of the skirt was really the main reason you liked that jig so much but i am waiting to hear back from a custom skirt maker to match the color at least in silicone.  It does suck that the company went out.  i liked that skirt material too.
