Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Has anyone ever tried this technigue for early season bass?

I have read a ton about it but have never tried it.  I heard a rumor that there is some open water around the I96 bridge on Kent Lake.  I was think about shore fishing with a Float n Fly type rig to see if i can get a little fix to hold me over for another month.

I've used it a fair number of times in the spring for smallies AND largemouth (and a killer on spring crappie too!).

If you know where the fish are, it can be really good. Mark Modrak always makes fun of me and "my bobbers."

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I've tried it a few times, but always switched out to something else.  I got all excited a couple years back and bought all the Punisher craft hair jigs and smelly jelly they sell down at Dale Hollow.  It might be good if you gave it time and learned it, but when I tried it, the ice was gone and spring had a good grip, it was too hard not to just use jerkbaits or a jigging spoon.  I did have some fun dragging it as my "tail-gunner" while fun fishing.  You pick up a fish or two for "free", not a bad deal! :D

Ever think of trying a blade-bait in that spot you mentioned?

I popped a couple 'deep' smallies off points near there on Kent on homemade blade baits (a friend makes them for me - we trade tubes for blade baits every year).
