Headed up there in 2 weeks with the wife.  She has to work but I have the day to play. Going to take the boat along if the weather is nice.   We will be staying near Lake James. Is there a public launch.  Looks like a launch on the west side.   Anyone ever fish it.

There is no public launch. There is a locked community launch on the west side. I fish it all the time as my sister-in-law has a house on the lake. Great dock lake. At one end is a small dam that always hold some fish. At the other end is a tube that goes to a small lake and I've found better fish down on that end. Lots of weed beds, lilly pads and you can pick any pattern and you will probably get into them. Largemouth only, no smallies. Got numbers of pike, perch and panfish. Only caught one small walleye in all the years I've fished it.

So... you're saying you'll hook us up, right?!? ;D

This time of the year I would launch on Houghton and head into the big canals in East Bay or off of North Bay. There could be some good largemouth fishing going on already depending on water temp.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Did some Google Earth looking and the canals may be the ticket.  Waiting for my wife to let me know how much free time I have during the weekend.

Thanks for the info.

You can fish a long time in those East Bay canals. I've had some real fun days in those and the ones in the North Bay too.
