I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

When attaching florocarbon leader line to a braided line, what is the best method in doing so. I have never try it, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Also so how much of a leader should I use. I would be using this with my tube or shaky heading rods. :-[

Thomas,

From what I have read the Uni to Uni knot is the best for attaching the leader to braid, I have yet to try it, so I dont know for sure. I do know that is important that you wet it as you tighten the knot to keep the lines from heating and weakening.

This site shows how to tie the knot.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Langer,

Looks like it will be next week before I'll be on the water. Let's make next Saturday the day we take my boat out. Looks like the weather will be changing. Will go to Belliville to do some fishing.

I always use a doube uni knot when I tie to lines together, Hank Parker taught me how on TV.  I would think a leader of 6' to 8' should be good.

I am experimenting with the ALBERTO knot (modified Albright knot) based on online searches that I have done.  It seemed a little more recommended than the doube uni knot.  Most of those were saltwater guys though, so maybe larger line?

I have practiced tieing it and I still get it to break easy 25% of the time.  But when it holds (probably tied correctly) it is as strong as the flouro leader itself.  Luckily when it does break it is easy to find.  I plan to test in more this spring.

I was tieing 10# fireline to 8# seagur carbon pro.

Man, that looks like a tough knot to tie. http://www.stripersonline.com/Pages/Articles/article_arby_albertos_knot.shtml
Is it easier than it looks?  The double uni is pretty easy.

Tht's why I have been practicing!   ;D

I do not like the thought of adding additional knots between me and a potential winning fish, so if I am going to do it, I am going to tie the best knot there is.  I will also test the double uni this spring.  The thing that drew me to the Alberto is it was specifically for tying braid to flouro.  The double uni is a carry over from fly fisherman tying backing to leader.
