I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Just wondering what your take is on this, when will you throw a jig or when will you throw a texas-rigged plastic, such a creature bait?  Thanks

Adam

McCarter

If i was targeting very heavy weeds, i would start with a texas rigged plastic.  It is easier to properly present a texas rigged plastic in thick vegetation, in my opinion.

Or, if i was fishing a jig in an area i knew was holding fish, but i wasnt getting bit, i would switched to a t rigged plastic to either a) give my presentation a new look, b) downsize my offering c) have more color options, d) all of the above.

And if i was throwing a soft plastic but getting a lot of short fish or little bluegill nibs, i might change to a jig looking for a bigger bite.

Throw a jig all the time never never never stop. from 1/4oz to 1 1/4 oz tournaments are won on jigs.

throwing creatures on texas rig gives them a totally different action. If i'm fishing relatively weed-free water i use a football jig or a round ball. I HATE "weedless" jigs so i don't use them.

creature baits will "flutter" to the bottom when hopped on t-rig (unpegged) because the weight falls faster than the bait. conversely i think you get a steadier fall and better action from any curly tails if use the jig.

so as far as choosing when... i don't step into the boat with out a jig/plastic rigged up on one rod and two others rigged up with t-rigs with different sized weights. Until i've found "the bite" i try to have 4 or 5 rods sitting by my feet and alternate through them every 5 minutes or so. Once i key in on a few bites... i try and fine tune whats working for me.

And crankbaits.... and lizards... and 10 inch power worms...

I prefer to T-Rig.  I just havent gotten the fever for jigs.  I need to, but I havent.  Give me a T-Rigged hula grub, brush hawg or a sweet beaver and I'm happy.  Pegged for heavy cover and unpegged for the sparse stuff.
