I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

What kind brand of reels are you guys using in a low gear ratio? I was looking at a Lew's

thedude

the lews TS1S is great reel. i got one and was very impressed with it.

The Speed Spool series has a better braking system than the tournament MG and laser models and is well worth the money.

I bought mine at haddrells point and as it was a really good deal on a new one. I plan on buying a few more this winter.

Very good reels. Own a couple myself!!!

Do they have lew's at cabela's? I've been looking at getting a curado. But i've heard alot of good things about lew's. Just getting into the bait casters

jjjmpv22

I need to get a new high speed reel and low speed reel plus I am left handed am looking to spend about 250 total on both

Lightningboy

Nuthin' against Lew's reels, as I've always heard good thing about them but never owned one.

But how low a ratio are you talkin' about?

Can't say I've ever wanted lower than a 5:1 reel.  I've had an ambasadour 3.47:1, and it was too slow for anything but a DD22.

revo wench you won't be disappointed.

I'm a Shimano fan, they just work for me. I was at BPS today looking at the Chronarch 200 E5, I think it was 5.5-1. This was the first time I have seen the new Chronarch reels, I was surprised how light they feel compared to my old gold Chronarchs. Shimano is participating in the trade a reel program again at the spring classic show, I will be trading a reel or two to pick up a few of the new Chronarchs.

Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

How does that trade in program work?

I have always preferred quantum and do most of my cranking with a 5:1 reel, with the exception of rattle baits.

+1 on the 5.4:1 Revo Winch.  I had never even owned a baitcaster with less than 6.2:1 until this past summer when I picked up a used Winch.  I was pulling Norman DD22s all day with ease on 10# fluoro and never knew how easy it could be.

If you're looking to throw BIG baits all day, then the Shimano Calcutta is the way to go.

During the spring classic show at BPS old reels are worth a certain amount off the price of a new reel. the price of the new reel will determine how much your trade is worth. Spinning or casting, it doesn't matter you can trade either in for a discount, it just has to be in good working condition. I think they donate them to the Boy Scouts.

I'm not sure what brands are eligible, I know Shimano is, at least that is what they told me. It will be listed in the flyer for the show. It will also tell how much discount you get for the reels eligible.

I did my deep cranking last year with the Lews Tournament MG in 5:4:1 and really liked it. I am really looking forward to trying out the new BB1 this year with the multi stop anti reverse.
