I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I have a hds-5 and it seems fine. But I know there is a ton of stuff I dont utilize. Is there any sites or online videos etc. to get the full potential of this product? Im so into getting to my spot and fishing I dont wanna mess with it. Wish there were one of them simulators online so I could mess with it on my free time at work or when its raining or something.

PS did I say I hate Instruction manuals. Lol

One of the best is YouTube.  I have found a lot of information there on using the Lowrance systems.  Do you have the Gen1 or 2?

Bigshow,
The best thing I ever did was take an on the water class with Randy Kuhens of KicknBass guide service on Kentucky Lake. You need to go to kentucky which i do every yr but it was worth it. He is on the lowrance staff and not only does he show you how to use the unit but he has a chip which allows him to update the unit with some really neat items. He also sets up all the icons ans adjusts the settings.
You can also go to www.kentuckylake.com. Go to fishing reports. Click on KicknBass fishing report and go to his website. He has actual screen shots of HDS units showing all types of situations, fish, ledges, structure, etc. I have printed out most of his screen shots and review them from time to time. You can also just sit in your boat at home and play with the unit. It's a great way to learn. You can zoom in on any lake already in the unit and study how to use it. The unit with lake insite is very good but when you add a chip it really changes things with regard to detail.
The last option is to take a class. Lowrance offers them several times per yr in various locations. You can ck that out on their website.
           Have fun,
                         Mark

I would have to check if its gen 1 or 2. I just got it last year as a replacement for my 332 that took a crap. It has lake insight. I have got stuff of youtube. I wish there was a hands on class a little closer though. Kentucky is a haul. Unless I did a little vacation there. Would like to fish there though.

You'll want to consider watching this link for the 2013 class schedule -  http://walleye101.com/gps___sonar_school

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

That sounds like it would be a good class. Wish it were closer but an hour and a half isnt that bad I guess. If anyone knows of one closer to detroit area let me know. Other than that, im going to this one.

Waterfoul

I was going to suggest finding out where Lance Valentine was doing his seminars but Dan already gave you the link.  Wow is he on top of his game or what??   ;D
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Another question on the HDS-5 with lake insight. Is the hot spots map a seperate deal? Guess I can check into it in the book. Just thought someone has more info on it. Like I said with wanting some training. There is so much this thing has that I haven't even touched.

Big dreams

The Insight package includes hot spots on the lakes covered by Lowrance.  You just move the curser over the spot that has a special marking over it and hit Enter to see what it has to say.  I have a few spots near and dear to me just because of the hot spots included in the Insight package.

BIGSHOW

Does anyone know if Lake/Erie or Detroit River is covered by the "hot spots"? I guess this is just the reason I need to take a class.
