I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I hope this post goes here, but anyways my question is...  is it better to buy new quality  treble hooks first then resharpen when needed or just resharpen stock hooks? And what type brand stlye of file would I use?  Thanks

Manxfishing

For me
If it's a decent hook just re sharpen has needed

I love to troll for Walleye
And there I use the Mustad triple grips on every thing
Great hook ups and the fish stay hooked up
But there not the most rebust hook. They get bent on big fish or iin the net
THere I just replace them as needed. Go there a couple doz a year
4's for the 800 Reef runners and 6's for the 700 and 600

Kvd uses the triple grips as well. So they can't be all that bad

Ya I thot bout getting the kvd mustad ultras or gamakatsus, and replacing a few hooks on a couple crankbaits and a couple jerk baits for the fall!

FishermanJohn

Some baits (Lucky Craft, Rapala, the newer model Strike King for example) are plenty sharp right out of the box.  For other hooks I replace them with Gamakatsu trebles.

McCarter

if you want a good treble hook try the tx3 rotating trebles from xcalibur.  they are killer for jerkbaits.  on those days when the fish are short striking, slapping, or headbutting a jerk, there is no better treble hook on the planet.

TCook

Hard to beat the gammy bronze round bends for most applications, for cranks and traps in grass or cover use the short shanks and go up a size for better hookups.
FISH HARD!!!

I'm with KVD on this one.

If you don't fish tournaments or for records, you can get away with just sharpening some of the stock hooks on many of the brand baits that are out now.

I'm a Triple Grip guy for the most part.  I have never sharpened at treble hook in my life, I replace them when they need it or get rusty.

I've never changed a hook on a crankbait in my life.  But some of the crankbaits I own have never even been wet!  LOL!!

You might not be the best role model for someone interested in cranking..?

Haha! I wish I knew someone around my area that was a good crankbait fisherman that I could learn from.  Most that I kno around my area have nuthin to do with them, which is kinda sad cuz I kno there a great weapon to have if u kno how to use em properly.
