Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

I'm looking for a good setup for froggin, Whether I thro a spro or a manns hard nosed frog.   I have a 7ft. MH Fenwick rod and daiwa pro caster w/20# braid is this good enough or do I need to change some things? Is so what?  When I cast it seems like the rod is too stiff and the lure doesn't go very far. Could the tip b the flex? Any suggestions?

I was using a very stiff All Star until last year. I got a Powell 725 Frog Rod and put a Curado E7 on it and couldn't be happier. I too felt that before I couldn't cast very far. I use some mono as backing when I spool with braid (50#), and with this rod I was able to cast down to my backing! I had to put more braid on there for this year. I'm very happy with this and it has enough tip to cast a long way.

I haven't thrown any frogs yet this year, but I'm looking at using the GLoomis GLX Heavy fast action 7'5 rod I got this winter. Paired up with a Pfluger Patriarch, 30lb Power Pro

I throw frogs on a GLoomis 7' MH fast action IMX rod with a Shimano Chronarch SF100 reel. I use 65# P-Line Spectrex braid with some 10# mono backer. I can't put a number on how far I can cast a frog but it is a loooong way. I am completely happy with this set up.

I tried a 7' heavy action IMX for awhile 2 years ago but it just didn't feel right and I couldn't cast nearly as far with it.

Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

i use a custom built 7' mag hvy. Its built on intermediate modulus blank (rainshadow rx7) so its got some bend to it despite the mag-hvy rating. You can boat flip 6lbers and it will cast a spro a freaking mile. Enough give in it to not pull the hooks when using 60lb braid. i don't like anything longer because its hard to "walk the frog" with a longer rod.

I use a St. Croix Avid 7' MH-F.  I can throw both frogs and toads a considerable distance with it, and it has a good balance of backbone and tip.  I don't feel like I pull a lot of hooks out with it, and I am still able to walk the dog with a frog.  I pair it with a Quantum Tour Edition 7.0 Burner with 50# Power Pro and 12# mono backing.  I like the 50# because of the extra abrasion resistance when compared to lower test line, and I found the 65# too stiff for my liking.  I like to keep my reel spooled as full as possible.
