Title: Beaver Islands
Post by: MBell on September 13, 2006, 04:01:37 PM
Checking out the beaver islands as a possible trip for next year.  Anyone ever been there fishing?  and how bad is the run.  I was planning on staying in charlevoix and running over probobly with a few boats for safety.

I have camped on the island eons ago. Don't know much about the fishing around it. If you stay in Charlevoix and have a crowd you may want to look at staying at the Horton Creek Inn. We stayed there twice for tournaments. If you reserve their top floor we only had to pay $55 a night. It is the nicest place I have ever stayed at. It's a bed and breakfast. They fix you hot pie and cake in the evening, fixed us breakfast getting up at 3:30 am to do so. They have a pool, hot tub, big screen tv, a bass pond, and it's a gorgeous place way back in the woods. They really treat you fabulously. We are use to getting the cheapest place we can find, but this was for Charlevoix, but only if you have enough guys to rent 4 or 5 of their rooms. If you eat in the area go to Boyne City and eat at Lesters. Best barbecued ribs going! You can get info on Horton Creek Inn on the Charlevoix Chamber web site under bed and breakfast. It's a great place to take the wife for a special weekend and then sneak out to the bay or Charlevoix while she sleeps in and gets pampered.

The cormorants have wiped out what used to be a world class fishery. Very sad.
