I'm being dragged up north with my wife's family for 5 days at the end of the month and the only way I agreed to go was if I brought my boat.  We are going to be at Crystal Mtn, so I wanted to fish Mitchell or Cadillac.  I was wondering if anyone here knows much about either lake.  Largies, smallies, or both.  PM me if needed.  Thanks

well, I know for sure that mitchell was sprayed for weeds about 3 weeks ago and that will drift into caddie.  If you are at crystal mountain theres  betsie bay/river ,  cryastal lake  ,  and if ya want to go just a touch further theres green and duck lakes in interlochen that would probably be closer.   Any other info  jsut feel free to ask

If you are at Crystal Mt. I'd be going over to Crystal Lake, Bear Lake, Upper and Lower Herring or better yet Portage Lake. Closer and at this time of year, they be where I was going. Cadillac and Mitchell get really busy. If you really want to go there call Steve a Pilgrim's Village. I have a number of articles from past events there on my teardropbass.com website.

Crystal lake or Bear Lake?  Which one is better and what would you target large or smallmouth?

Myself, I'd go to Crystal. Downtown launch is not the best, but during the week you shouldn't have too much trouble. The ramp is a pain with a strong west wind. Did you check out the articles on my website for Crystal. Guys that I run the website for had a tournament there mid June. I don't think I have ever seen a largemouth come out of that lake, but I'm old and may have not remembered one. It's primarily a smallie lake. Typical for that area, large sand flats that lead to a pretty steep break. There  is an area with lots of rock off the point that you can see from the ramp down on the south side. If it's windy I'd probably head to Bear. Not too far down the road from Bear Lake though is Portage Lake. Some GLB members are having a tournament on Portage Saturday. Talked to some guys on the water there this morning trying to give them a little help. If you go to Portage you could drop the wife off at the Casino which is about 7 miles from Portage. That way if you're not lucky catching fish, maybe she'll be lucky and win some greenies of her own.
