I'm disappointed to see now that House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee Chair Representative David Martin has added those very bad commercial fishing bills HB 5801 and 5802 to an upcoming committee hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at noon.

The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Katchem League One on One at Half Moon Chain in Pinckney on May 26th! Fish 6am-2pm.
$60 entry fee which includes big bass pot. No membership fees- just sign up and fish.
Standard tourney rules apply.
90% payback at ramp/ 10% goes toward classic pot.
Scot and I pay to fish, no freebies here.
Finish 1st or 2nd in any one tourney or fish 4 of 5 to qualify for Classic in Oct.

May 26 - Half Moon
June 30- White Lake
July 28- Portage Chain- Pinckney
Aug 25 - East Crooked, Brighton
Sept 15 - Kent Lake
