Monstrous Fish Threaten Great Lakes
By JOHN FLESHER, AP

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Nov. 21) -- Asian carp may have breached an electronic barrier designed to prevent the giant invaders from upsetting the ecosystem in the Great Lakes and jeopardizing a $7 billion sport fishery, officials said Friday. Read article

That is just great....Our kids fishing legacy is in jeapordy because of stupidity and greed.....Nice....

I won't even get into the greed that started this mess but it is even worse the battle with the shipping industry to stop a tragedy to our fishing industry.....Makes me sick...

One of the main purposes for running this site it to get as much information out to as many like-minded persons as I can. Otherwise we humans are guaranteed to keep repeating the same mistakes. Change can happen, but it doesn't come from nothing.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
(Attributed to Edmund Burke though the true source cannot be found and there a numerous variations - regardless, it remains an accurate statement)

I don't think this is the time to be concerned with what happened. I'm concerned with, what is being done now, and by whom, and how can I help? Somehow, the mistakes of the past need to get fixed.

What I heard over the weekend is that they plan to poison part of the canal in hopes to kill the fish that got by.

Yes - a plan of action would be nice. Better to try something as long as it won't make things worse. There is a possibility the fish won't do well in the cold Great Lakes but I don't want to wait and find out that is wrong.

Hopefully we don't have to change our Tourneys to Carp bow tournaments...Dan do you have the rights to greatlakescarp.com??

There are alot of battles being waged....It is interesting to search around and see how hard conservation groups have to battle to fight greed...

Yes, I do, but I sure didn't buy it for this reason... there are people who love carp fishing, but I don't know about when the carp can jump out of the water and knock you silly...

Dan,

Why can't we get all members to send a msg to the State, our Legislators, the Governor, and whomever else, why not the White House?!  This is mighty @$#%@ serious and complaining amongst ourselves will get us nowhere until we "rally the troops."  I'll do whatever is necessary and anything I can to help get this rolling.

Let me see if I can come up with a directed plan people can consider. Will take a few days.

Hopefully whatever methods someone decides to use to fix this problem, doesn't involve introducing any carp predators, as this has been done in other similar situations, and just resulted in more ecosystem screw ups.

The poisoning doesn't really sound like a good idea either.  Unfortunately, I can't think of a better one though.

These carp scare the poo out of me. I have been reading so much about them lately. I wouldnt put it past the politicians to not tell us if they were already in the great lakes. I hope I'm wrong
