I might not have made the flight in January 2012, but all 10 of the other adventure anglers did make it to the Amazon and the Rio Negro, home of world record peacock bass! From all accounts, it was another awesome adventure for the anglers! Two GreatLakesBass.com members sent pictures and reports on the trip.

I asked Team houston to rate the trip on a 1 to 10 scale and I got an immediate reply of 10! This was not his first peacock bass trip, but his first to the Amazon. Scott Dobson also made the trip, his first peacock bass expedition. Here's just a little of their awesome adventure.

Team houston: 10 - Yes I enjoyed it to the utmost. If I could I would do it every year. The 10 of us landed over 500 peacocks. 4 over 20. I thought there would be more in the 5-12 lb range. Lots of 1.5 -3 lbers.

My biggest was a 15 lber. Yea I was happy with a 15 lber. My goal was
something in the teens.

I did catch a huge black piranha close to 4 lbs!

Phil is sporting the official hat of the Amazon. They're very close to the Equator and direct sunlight so covering up is a pretty good idea! That's one of the top local guides, Gi, with him in the picture. Gi likes piranha soup! you'll here more about Gi in upcoming reports. I notice Team houston isn't lipping that fish?!? The real big piranha like this are always the black species. There's also lots of white piranha in the same stretch of the Rio Negro. They appear similar in shades but have iridescent scales along their sides to their belly that flash like hologram in the light.

Scott Dobson: You missed out on a great trip! Definitely going back again. Here is the fruit of my labor. 21 lber below a sand bar and off a tree line. Slammed a Bomber A-salt!

Intel from the January trip was the Scott was on a mission and would not slow down until he busted one over 20!! Great job Scott! And thanks for a great report and pictures including the toothy chomper Team houston! I hope we get another chance somewhere down the road to try again!
