The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

good to see he got the outboard fixed .

McCarter

yeah, sure......lets pick on the fat kid some more!

actually, i did drop my trailer once, but it wasnt in the water.  But thank god it happened before i got to the water, or else i might have been swimming after it.

I was on my way to Tipsico Lake with a friend.  First time going there so of course we got lost.  I stopped down a dirt road to ask a farmer for directions.  Once i hit the gas again, the trailer popper off the hitch and hit the ground.  had to get out and lift her back on.  Lesson learned.  Never happened again.

Then there was the time Kev tried to pull the trailer up the kent lake boat ramp with the boat still attatched to the winch.  it was pretty cool.  some of you know what im talking about.  There were GLB witnesses.

McCarter himself :-\'

let's see this summer i tried to launch the ranger with the tie downs still attached.  and fished 3 hours on Cass with the plug out. ( love that auto bilge pump ).

remember i will tow ya on Kent if your motor is still broke.

I have also made the mistake with the tie downs a couple of times in the early days.  And my very first launch happened with no plug in the boat.  As I launced, the winch broke too, so the boat was stuck in the water with NO automatic bilge pump taking on water while I frantically tried to jury rig the winch to get the boat back out of the water.  I ended up nearly sinking it.  But hey, I was just a youngin'.

The scaries trailer moment I ever had was also with my first boat.  It was a 1976 Galaxy with a pretty rusty trailer.  But it seemed solid.  What I didn't know that was under where the wheel jack was bolted down the rust had eaten totally thru the main support beam of the trailer.  I towed it to a lake with no problems...but I didn't know about the problem.  I left the boat at a seawall and towed the trailer home.  As I was coming off of I-94 onto the exit ramp, the trailer broke at the wheel jack and hit the ground.  The only thing still keeping it attached to the truck was a 3 inch piece of rusty metal which broke as soon as I stopped.

I cannot imagine what could have happened if it had broken with the boat on it on the freeway at 65mph.  It would be a disaster that would have likely killed people and caused a massive pileup on the freeway.  I can only surmise that God Himself must have been holding that trailer together on the way to the lake and until I got back to the exit ramp near home.  I can't think of any other explanation.  As you can imagine, I had a new main support beam welded onto the trailer and have been highly attentive to my trailer's condition ever since.

Had my boat a few days and was loading on Pipestone (what a disaster for a ramp), and it loaded crooked.  Anyone ever fished Pipestone knows what I'm talking about.  Well I tried to reload it and forgot I had put the straps on, and made a nice mess of things.  None other than Bob Luetke comes walking over and helps me lift the front back onto the roller so I can get the boat straight.  What a savior he was that day.  Anybody ever talk to him, or is he on here?  Would like to say thanks again, and maybe take him up on that fishing offer.

I was loading after a tourny at Ovid when backing down the ramp I slammed the shift into park, or so I thought. I jumped out of the truck to realize It had hit reverse instead. Turning around I dove in and hit the brake with my hand. Almost sunk a brand new Silverado!!

Anthony Adams

Hey Poor Boy what lake was that? .... was the fishing good that day?
