The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Poorboy's Preseason Party

Guys, I know Dan has said that next year he may be intersted in an early season DK Open, but he's busy this spring.  I for one would like to meet a few of you guys and get to know you BEFORE the season, so if I see you on the water I can wave (or one finger salute, depending on how good a fisherman you are! ;D)

Would anyone be intersted in a pre-season thing?  Maybe just agree to meet at a ramp somewhere this May and go fishing and have a good time.  I would nominate Wixom lake, but I know that's a drive for many.  We can't let all of Dan's hard work to help get an early bass season go to waste, my freinds!

We could call it Poorboy's Preseason Party

or Blakstr's Before-season Bash

or Savage's Spring Slob-hunt

or Revtro's Round-up...

Jeez, this is getting cheesy.  Anyway, just a thought starter.  I don't want to step on Dan's toes and get something going, so next season we could just call it the DK Open spring event.  Or (Dan's Derby)  I'd really like to get to know you bunch of misfits.... :P

I'm busy the weekend of May 13-14, but another day, I might be able to make it...

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

may is going to be busy with 3 ABS in 4 weeks 7th, 29th and june 3rd.  also with weeknight NBAA starting may 31 on cass..
maybe late april if it is not snowing too hard...   don't really want to drive to wixom..  cass would be fun..

my 2 cents

I'd be in just depending when it is - leaving for KY 4/29 for 2 weeks, then everything gets going in mid-may after that.  If fishing doesn't work, how bout a wingfest someplace?

how about a mid week night or afternoon deal.. couple of hours..  closest lake to HOOTERS would work.  too bad there is no launch on walled lake.

Potter

I would do my best to get there.

I think the closest launch to Hooters would be Vets Park in Bay City on the Saginaw River.  We could then fish our way upstream to Saignaw, where THAT Hooters is right on the river, too. ;D

going to be there at least one afternoon the first week in may...  since it is 5 minutes from my work i am flexible.   besides fishing is more fun that working any day...  not sure how flexible everyone is..

since we are talking about Hooter's, seems it will be a good opportunity to see everybody during this years State Fish-Off out of Vet's Park in Bay City, if we plan a little "throw back" party at the BC Hooters right next to the launch...you know if we have any energy left.. ;)

I was thinkin Wixom because it gives the northern Michigan folks a chance to come down, it's only a couple hours from the Gaylord area to get there....  Tha Martiny Lake chain might be cool, too.  I've heard that there are some pigs swimming around in there, and that gives our East siders a little less drive ::)

Also in the gladwin area there is a small lake to the north called lake lancer that has some huge pigs in it. They dont allow tournaments, but my club has always found away around it. It is not uncommon to have a dozen fish over 4 1/2 lbs brought to the scales. But I am ok any place we decide.

i like the Kent Lake/ Novi Hooters idea.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

As long as I can make it on the day ya'll choose, I'll be there.  I'm pretty flexible.  Wixom or Kent sounds fine to me.
