Title: Tawas Bay Fishing For Small Mouths Spring Time
Post by: Bassfrog on March 22, 2011, 10:16:17 PM
Has anyone fished Tawas Bay for small mouths in the spring? I fished the reef in front of Walmart last year in a Kayak it was an awesome time. Started off using tubes then switched to spilt Senko's with a 1/8 oz. tungsten slip weight. Caught I couple over 20 inches and at least 15 that were slot fish in that 12 to 15 inch range. Marked lots of way points so if anyones going this spring let me know.

Been a while since I've been up there, but that is a fun area to fish.

There is a tournament up there (www.saginawbaybass.com) that launched out of AuGres and I heard some people did go to Tawas to fish. I'd like to try that area but need to find a day when the wind isn't blowing. I swore off (and at) Saginaw Bay after a very rough day out there. I know there is great fishing, I just have to overcome my fear of that monster.

Chris, if you make it up this way this spring hit me up we'll do it right.  Tawas has some good fish but not huge numbers like the charitys do.  I know of a few locals up there that fish it regularly, and do well.  It does fish small however, if you have to share it with a few boats your weight will suffer.  We'll be running the 2nd Saginaw Bay Open of 2011 out of AuGres on June 5th, 2011.  It's a pretty easy run from AuGres if the wind is right.

That's been my experience with Tawas. But when the wind is howling out several different directions, you can launch in the bay and get in some decent bass fishing. Plus! The sheepshead there seem to like spinnerbaits at times!
