Whatever it is, the first day for catch and immediate release smallmouth fishing on Lake St. Clair is April 30, 2011.

I figured it out. But you were going by the old test season that was discontinued when we moved to a statewide catch and release bass season several years ago. The correct opening day for catch and release smallmouth or largemouth bass in the Great Lakes and Lower Peninsula is the last Saturday in April every year.
