GENERAL INFORMATION
Nonboaters, bring life jackets if you can to make sure we have enough.
I try to make sure there are as few boats as possible with no one that knows the water. I also like to have a mini-seminar before we launch on where to fish. If someone really needs help they can follow me. Fish right by me.
If you have anything new or like new you'd like to donate for prize giveaways, please contact (http://www.greatlakesbass.com/fishing/contact.html) me.
This event is all about everyone catching some fish, having fun and getting to know each other!!! Thank you for being members of GreatLakesBass.com.
Post that you are attending and if attending as a boater or nonboater in this thread please.
I'm in as a Boater....I may have some issues with work like I talked to you about in my PM Dan but I will keep you up to date as time gets closer....
No babies forecasted for May of 2011 - for some reason my wife thought that fishing 18 hours after the birth of our 3rd baby girl was "pushing it"; I thought the sleep deprivation and anesthesia combination with a strategically placed discussion could get it done but she picked up on my agenda right away.... :o
Dan - you forgot to mention in your post that you were doing the draw lottery picks based on sign up order; so as the 1st official non-boater I get the 1st pick in 2011 DK Open Boater Draft! ::) ::) ::)
Unless I have someone who specifically says they want to fish with you...
Veronica and I will plan on being there.
I'm in, non boater.
I'm in as a boater and will bring my nephew to fish with me.
I'm in for a boater! I hope the water is cleaner than last year!
i'm in... non-boater preferred.

Me too - clean, clear, calm, warming water would be quite the weigh in probably!
I'm in, of course, as a boater.
I'm in as a non-boater, unless we need boaters come May.
We should be okay as long as the East side boaters sign up well.

Don't forget your crankbaits. I'm tryin to show him drop shot and tube fishing. He wups me real bad with a little crankbait. I only own 3 crankbaits and the bass did not like them.
I'll be there with boat, for more lessons from the west siders. ;D

I don't go anywhere with my cranks! One pointer for you Steve, cranks work best when you
don't bounce the fish off the side of the boat three times trying to flip them in. ;D ;D
You guys going to newton again?
I'm in nonboater.
I should be able to make it non-boater
Im in as a Boater. Looks like its going to be another big carpool day from the west side.
I'm waiting to make sure that my club doesn't schedule an event that day. Will know by end of January.
If we don't, then I can sign in as a..................... (drum roll please)..............
BOATER! But, I gotta admit if it's like last year, my little 185 is not going to be flying over those waves.
If I am able I am willing. Boatair!

I'm planning to be there as a boater.
I think I'm going to try it as a non-boater this year. Maybe I can learn how to fish ;D
Update - I'm in as a boater and will bring my sister-in-law (Laura Lisiscki) to fish with me. Andrew Lisiscki is my nephew and will fish out of my boat for fun like last year.
count me in as a boater, see if i can improve on last years finish. ;D
Sounds good! Thanks!
are we having another cookout like we did last year, that was a blast
I am in as a non-boater
We might have some food. If everyone wants it and it doesn't look insurmountable for some reason.
I'll be in as a boater, sorry for not seeing this sooner, sir!
Scott
Well... it's not like we don't have some time yet.
We'll do food, I'll do a little better planning this year.
I am not sure just yet whether or not I will be able to make this. I haven't made one yet as it always depended on whether my son was playing soccer or not. I will be able to commit as soon as I know what the schedule for his games and tournaments are going to be for the spring. His team is one of the elite 10 year old teams in Michigan right now so his development in the game as well as the team is very important because they are approaching State Cup status. So as soon as I know his game schedule then I can let you know. I am keeping my fingers crossed that his games for that week will fall on any day but May 14. I hope to know by mid April. How about my partner Megan Fox?? Has anyone heard from her yet??? ::) :P
BD ;D
Very cool Dog....!! Tell your son good luck... ;D
List me in please as a boater with my 12 year old nephew as my partner. He is a member also.
Sign me up as a non boater if you still spots open. I have never fished here so it sounds like a great time. Also if someone could PM on what to bring as far as tackle that would be great just don't any idea on how to fish on St Clair. Thanks Mike
You can put me down as a non-boater
Will do
;D ;D ;D Woohoo !!! I was able to work out a trade day with another firefighter. I'll be able to fish the Open. Please put me down as a non-boater Dan. ;D ;D ;D
Capt Charlie will be there as a boater, going for a new personal best !
'09 5.15 '010 6.03 '011 ???
6.98 I'm guessing ;D Glad to have both of you aboard!
If there is room for another non-boater, I'd like to try my first DK Open.
Lots of room at this early date yet. Consider yourself on the list. I won't start counting boaters and non-boaters until sometime in March.
You'll have fun Eetz and I bet you'll catch em. Bring your jerkbaits, dropshots and tubes.

Non-boater?? Am I reading this correctly? You going to fit in someone else's boat with your 7'2" frame? Just kidding, I'll be there again too. I have some unfinished business with this tournament, and now that Wags showed me his secret spots... I'll be bringing my boat to fish a little extra, so count me in as a boater.
On a side note, a little over a month and I will be looking to purchase a couple Humminbird units and some new rods and reels, can someone pm me some info on finding them at a discount. I'm not made of money or I would gladly support the price of those companies, but how cheap I can get them will determine if I get bigger or smaller, and how many new gear combos I can get. Thanks for any help guys. And gals.

I had a gps hidden under my nemesis skirt and saved all the points too! Just joking, I'll stick with stuff I know. I can't fish the way you fish effectively. Not yet.
Most time I can't either. :-[
Dang!! You beat me to it!
I'm sure we'll get more boaters...I hope so because it looks like we need more. Count me in as a boater.
Yes. We have lots of time yet. I'll get on top of this shortly after the Ultimate Sport Show in March.
I can always go as a Boater if necessary.
I can't go as a boater. If I did, I wouldn't catch any fish. :( Seems like every time I drag a boat there, I get skunked. Must be my truck?????

Just so Wags and anyone else I may fish with knows, I won't use or give out any info on locations, unless permission has been granted to me for one or both, or there is a lot of money on the line AND you are NOT fishing said tournament. I'm a spot finder, not a spot stealer. Now I may use the general area and figure something else out, or if I would have normally tried that I may fish it, but I'm by no means a hole thief, and I just wanted to get that known. I seem to be getting a lot of heat lately for jokes not coming across as such online. Anyone that knows me should know all info above. Just saying. Thanks for the trip Wags, your secrets are safe with me. Except for the community holes.

I wouldn't sweat it too much...I know that Wags and Skip have some "Top secret/crypto spots"...but most of us that time of year fish the same basic areas....Just don't bring a hand held GPS and all will be good...(I for sure don't have the C and R fishing on LSC figured out yet, it is either feast or famine for me)
If the schedule that I got today at work is good, I should be OK for the DK Open...This 4 on 4 off schedule will kill 99 percent of the tournaments that I want to fish though...More time for fun fishing but no time off on weekends to compete...

I'm deeply sorry to hear you are having trouble UAW, but knowing Wags and seeing the laugh after his post, I'm sure he is joking. I don't think he would intentionally make errant remarks towards someone, unless it was provoked or invited, and it doesn't sound that way. I think he was trying to get you on here. I have only the honor of interacting with you one time. Had a lot of things going on and we are making the best of a bad situation. In the scope of things in life, it is a small bump in the road that you will hit from time to time. My Grandma used to say, "And this too shall pass." In this instance, no one was hurt and no one died.
I noticed that I got an email from the site that a person had posted something. When I hit the link and it brought me to the topic, this person deleted his post. I would like to commend that person for deleting whatever he wrote. He probably should have never hit "post". It indicates that he posted on emotion and not of common sense and then came full circle and realized he was doing the same thing that he may have had issue with in the past. That would have made him nothing less than the hippocrit that he accused another of being. My Dad used to say that was one of the lessons of manhood. Again kudos to the young man for exercising some common sense. ;). Anyway back on subject: I still don't know if Alec will be playing soccer the weekend of the open. As soon as I find out I will let you know. If I can make it, I will be coming as a boater.

I am assuming you are talking about me, ya I made a smart *** comment responding to your post and decided it wastnt worth it. Thanks for breaking that down and alerting the glb nation. Almost every day is a struggle to keep my mouth shut on this site regarding your posts.
Well being that we are all human, we certainly have all had our moments. It is best to keep all lines of communication open and do our best to respect each other. Dog I hope all works out for the best, I am sorry my humor caught you at a bad time.

Gee TCook, do you have a guilty conscience?? ??? I never mentioned any names so you shouldn't "assume" anything. I paid that person a compliment for taking the low road. If in fact it was you, don't take it the wrong way!! It was meant to be a compliment. Stop making something out of nothing. All things being fair, I find it a struggle to keep my mouth shut when you post too. I just don't hit the "post" button if in fact that was you, only the ones who have posted here know that......not the whole GLB nation. You don't even know me so how can you pass judgement on me like that. I never passed any kind of judgement on you. Take the same advice you gave me once, go make no fun for anyone else somewhere else. Lighten up. Your going to die at a young age if you don't start taking things with a grain of salt. A very wise man named MadWags just recently was quoted as saying that. Believe me, anything you say about me, I take with a grain of salt because you don't even know me. And oh yeah, why do you keep me in your friends list on facebook if you dislike me so much?? Do you cringe when I post there too??

Thanks for putting all this in perspective Mike. I do have to admit that I am suffering from a bit of cabin fever. But no malice was intended toward TCook. The post was meant as a compliment to that person. It was not written under any "big time" cabin fever. If I had meant any malice, I would have written a personal email to that person where no one else would be involved or have to know. My email would have been way more stern than the version I posted. But there was no need to do that. I harbor no ill feelings toward anyone, even those that don't care for me. Being the best person I can be and a good Christian, I will pray for those that can't forgive and those that can as well. God Bless TCook and all the members of GLBass.com.

Maybe you could alternate names from year to year. One year the MadWags Open, the next year the McCarter Open, another year the Mikesmiph Open and it could be alternated between the east and the west side of the state from year to year. It would be great to have this after the season opened on St. Clair so that we could actually see the fish at the weigh in rather that tell fish stories. :o I would like to see a fall open on Erie.

Mojo, my girl is Megan Fox not Meg Ryan and if the new rule is if you post on this thread, you're in the tourney, the I want to draw either TCook or you as my back boater. This should be fun...
Dats me boy !
How do I claim this one ????? ok - No one can really get a person who is a true fisherman. One who sniffs the air just before lighting off and knows where to get on fish just based on weather, current, temps, and turpidity. No one can figure out the guy who goes 8 - 10 hrs completely into each and every cast. Its that kind of person that I really appreciate. With rods and lures, a certain person can paint a mural. Now you Aint always gotta love him, but I appreciate someone who welcomes you in his boat, hands you some brushes as you two go painting the day with 20 - 40 fish. And that guy is UAW.
And that guy is also Madwags. Going loking for that darn Neeeemawwww !
Now Mojo, I don't know what kind of fishing you are doing, but when I'm done painting my masterpiece with my rods for a day, I feel like I just spent the day with Megan Fox, and it is officially NAP TIME!! I don't know how many times Tim and I have had to pull over after a tournament for me to crash out while he's already asleep, even if it is just an hour. I'll find fish or burn a lot of gas looking, but I'm never wide awake after the days done. I am whooped!! And Wags is a monster on the lake, that I have witnessed first hand! Can't wait to see all of you again!
P.S. Mojo, can I go through your custom cranks box and just pick out one gift, please please please ;) ;D

Dats me boy !
How do I claim this one ????? ok - No one can really get a person who is a true fisherman. One who sniffs the air just before lighting off and knows where to get on fish just based on weather, current, temps, and turpidity. No one can figure out the guy who goes 8 - 10 hrs completely into each and every cast, and when they come off the water, they are refreshed like they just took a long nap.
That darn Nemawwww !
And Mojo, you're going to make me cry!!! :'( :'( That's just darn right poetic. :'( :'( I need a kleenex. :'( :'(

I didnt know i could unpost stuff. most of the things I post between 2am and 6am should be unposted. If only I remember the next day that I posted them. However, I have learned that PWD is far better than Drunk Dialing.
Frank
Kinda like Tom Cruise in Jerry McGuire and his "mission Statement" ??? lololol
Mojo is only peotic when typing. If he uses the phone you only get to talk to his butt. And no matter how loud i yell, his butt will not alert his head to the fact that he called me. Does Mojo butt dial you guys weekly also, or just me?
Frank
He only butt dials you, Frank. I have fished with Mojo and he is the best non-boater I have ever fished with that wasn't my family. Matter of fact he has been better than some of my family on the back of the boat and I am honored to have him as my friend. Are you crying yet Mojo?? :'(
BD ;D
My family members are the worst co-anglers, they really don't fish but the few times I take them out - so there is a lot of stepping on my guides and me trying to explain to them a technique.

Toads make more of a croaking sound. The biggest ones I have ever seen were in Florida. They come out at night in droves. The toads Mojo is squawking about are LSC Smallies which actually grow way bigger than toads. jeez city kids.................. 8)

Not that anyone is asking me.
Being last week we lost a good friend wags. Maybe the work croak is just a bad topic or subject
Just a guess

See, even fearless leader got the wrong idea. I was teasing my buddy Mojo. Trying to lighten up a bad situation. But as we all know, when things are written, no one actually knows how it is intended. Therefore perception is everything. I work at the same place he does. I don't see Mojo every day, we do occasionally meet for a coffee and of course talk fishing. Mojo is my friend and if we can't ask of each other no matter what the topic, issue, whatever, then there is no friendship. He is a good man and the benchmark for a back boater.
BD. ;D
Sometimes people are not in the 'teasing' mood though.
Understand..................but do we know that for sure.........................or should we just assume...................... ??? But I get you. ;) and a nod. I know that for sure. You'll have to take my word for it.
Yes, get fuzzygrub1613 to bring his new boat. A pretty good way to break in the new boat, I think. Or he can come as a nonboater if he doesn't want to break in the new boat on St. Clair.

I can't think of a much better lake to break a new boat in than LSC.... ;D
Dan,
Well I saw hoping to fish it
But I'm all set now to fish the FLW walleye tour that week
Let's just hope we get weather like we had last year on the DK Open. Man was it nice. That was my first time on LSC, and I couldn't have asked for a nicer day. I still look at the pic I took from the back of Bass_Cat's boat, looking across the vast nothingness, and seeing no land. Love it!!!
Break in the boat or break the boat?

No no. Lets have no breaking of boats in the spring open. (Or anytime how bout?)
My first open in the spring was rough. My ram mount pulled out of the deck and almost ripped the trolling motor off. That why i said break or break in :P
You really want to catch those sheepshead real bad, don't you?!? ;D
Dan,
Put me down as a boater.
Len B.
Thanks Len. I better get working on some sponsor donations. Looks like a big turnout!
I think we are going to set some records with this one. I better start thinking about food. Whos interested in another cookout at weigh-in? Maybe I should start a new topic.
I have some pics of some big hogs last spring that couldn't resist my jig. Too bad bass don't fall for it as much as the sheep. ;D

Start a separate topic Mike. I believe Mojo has volunteered to help. We'll talk about this soon. Do some planning.
As part of the Defending Champion Team, I will have to be in...Boater
Looks like my schedule is clear at the moment. I think this may be a good first tournament for my 11yr old. Count me in as a boater w/non in-tow.

Dan, I checked my updated schedule....I am a go for a boater.....(Just confirming)
Hopefully the wind quits blowing...Don't want the mudded up mess we had last year...This year I will have a little more time that week for scouting....
I would like to fish as a non-boater if possible. Never fished st. clair, sounds like a good time. Not sure if it is too late or not.
Never too late. We have plenty of time to work things out. The more, the merrier. Check out the food deal afterward too if interested.

Do you mean how teams are matched up? How the 'weights' are recorded? I think most of the questions are answered in the very first post, but if something is still not clear, as mikesmiph suggested, please clarify what you would like to know and I'll provide an answer.
Sorry, for the posting I was misinformed about the tournament.I'm fishing with my Uncle Mike Huston
Sorry, but I am going to have to remove my name from the competition.
What's the official count at and how are we doing on pairings? Is it time yet? Dan what are you doing right now???
Dan was at the NBAA yesterday. Hes maybe driving.
My guess is that he is munching on some good southern food... Right Now. (or taking cover from yet another storm)

I'm not going to be able to make it just so happens my daughters cheerleading comp is on the 14th. Maybe befor I transfer I will be able to make one of these. Have fun everyone!
By going thru all the posts right now it looks like we are pretty much even on boaters and nonboater give or take a couple either way. Somewhere around 20 +/- both sides.
Awesome. Can't wait.
Home now so I'll get to work on all this within the next 3 to 4 days at the latest. After talking about fishing and watching so many others fish this spring at various places from here to Louisiana, I would like to do some fishing myself!
Have to get the truck fixed and check the boat out yet to see how the new steering is working - broke at the end of November last year. Today just slept a lot. Guess I'm not as up to all day driving like I used to though I missed most of the storms while driving and had a fairly non-eventful trip considering the weather when I got to Kentucky. Looks like they are planning on extending I-69 onto the Kentucky Parkway in the near future maybe?
I'm in.

Okay. Wading through 12 pages of posts, email, phone messages, PM's, Facebook messages, a couple napkins and a few other things to see where we're at with boaters and non-boaters. I should have something up tomorrow, probably later, about where we are at.

No, my shift is 7pm to 7am. Due to UAW contractual issues I have to start my week on Sunday midnight and work till 7am Monday then it's 7 to 7 until Friday when we work from 7p tp 12am. So I am taking the 5 hours I'm scheduled on Friday off so I don't have to drive straight there from Defiance Oh. Does that make sence? ??? You got "Sunday Night Start" language. They did away with that when we borrowed money from the government. They would pay double time until midnight which then became Monday. I am on days and I like days. A lot of guys like the shift premium. It's still 10% on 3rd shift or midnights.
Won't be able to make the event. Alec had soccer games rescheduled from the heavy rains on May 1 and previous. Fields were under water. Two games tomorrow and two games on Sunday. My next day out will be next Friday when I take a vacation day. Someday I am going to make one of these things.
