Title: Lower Menominee??
Post by: Crookedneck on August 02, 2010, 10:48:35 PM
Anybody been doing any smallmouth fishing on the lower Menominee lately?

Been out a couple of times.  Water has been up, fishing has been difficult this year.

Any reports..

Mike

How do you usually fish that? What produces best? Haven't been over in that are in a number of years myself. The water up though actually sounds good considering the past years on the Great Lakes.

I usually split my time.  Between the shallows throwing spinner baits and top water.  Then hit the channel walls slowly pullin a beavertail or craw immitation carolina rigged.  The bite has been very soft.

I've been fishing a local weekly tournament.  Just found out tonight I'm running 2nd out of 42, not too bad for my first year.  Not a lot of big fish but, I have been bringing fish in every week, so I guess that is what it takes.

Had my best week last week, with a 22" cleft lipped hog.  Came out of 23' of water in the rocks.

The water is a lot higher than recent years.  But, it has been needed.

Well, it actually sounds like you're doing pretty good! Consistency is very important in a circuit. So are the occasional 22" hogs!
