Title: 2010 DK Open East Short Summary
Post by: djkimmel on May 15, 2010, 10:43:35 PM
Real short for now... until later tomorrow.

MaizeNBlue and stackenem edged out last year's Spring DKOpen champion skip johnson by 1 ounce!!

Their winning limit weighs 20 pounds 5 ounces, while skip johnson and Bobber who had 5 bass weighing 20 pounds 4 ounces.

As reported elsewhere on the forum, Bobber landed a huge 6 pounds 4 ounce smallmouth toad.

Forgot to mention 'sheephead' marya won the biggest other fish contest with a 5-7 sheephead!

thanks for putting on another great event dan. Had a great time as usual catching up and BSing with all my "internet friends" (as my wife likes to call them). On top of that  - i think i broke the st. clair curse finally. Other than a brief trolling motor cable issue - i managed to get through the day without losing a fish or any other collosal f'ups! Thanks Jay for having some spots to fish, it was a pleasure sharing a day in the boat w/ you.

thanks also to everyone who shared their food and (more importantly) beer!!!

i rolled into the house at 9 cleaned my walleye watched a little tv with the wife and was promptly rendered unconscious by 11:30. After getting about 2hrs of sleep friday - i took the morning off today to make sure i got all my beauty rest in so i can look sexy on the water the rest of the week! ;D ;D

I second that. Finally we got some good weather to work with at a St Clair DK Open. Terry and I and his his nephew had a lot of fun and we caught quite a few fish compared to everyone else it sounds like. We just couldn't find anything that wasn't between the 2 and 4 pound mark.

My personal favorite for the day though was hearing a few newer guys ask which guy was that idiot that was double fisting beers in his profile pic lol too funny.

Good thing they didn't see me double fisting beers at the BBQ after the Tournament. :D
What a great turn out for a good time. I really enjoyed the day with Herman and was one of the last to leave the after party. Only because we ran out of beer. Dan and I were reminiscing about the first DK Open. I hope we can get another great turn out at Lake Ovid this fall. ;)

I maybe had more fun than anyone at this tournament. There were so many wonderful things, I dont know if I can put them in words. I want to first of all thank each and every one of you for being so accepting and nice to Veronica. She just adores everyone she meets through this website. The weather was fantastic. Veronica was a little cool in the morning, but made it through the day, and didnt want to come in. We caught some fish on our first ever trip to St Clair (thanks Dan and Mary for leading us). The cookout afterward was the best. Thanks to Motocross for bailing me out on the cooking. Thanks to everyone who brought food. I think, most of all, I want to thank the guys for being gentlemen when it counted most. I know how things can get sometimes when the beer is flying. I only heard one small gaff in front of Veronica, and that was quickly and very nicely appoligized for. You are a great bunch of guys (you too Mary). I know for a fact that I am a lifelong member of this group. You make a new guy feel very welcome. Thanks again to Dan, for putting it on. And, thanks to all of you for participating.

Even though the fishing was tough I think I enjoyed this DK open more than any of the others. Weather was great, alot of friendly faces and great food. I had a good time fishing with Motocross and getting to know him. Got to thank him for bringing the grill and cooking up some good eats too. Also want to thank the guys that brought all the food and drinks, most of all Dan for putting on another great event. The fishing was not what I expected but we still decided to head back out after the festivities and stuck another 35 smallies, they really turned on when the clouds rolled in and the wind switched to the east. But the real kicker was the Goliath I caught the last half hour of fishing Sunday before we headed home. She went 7-4 on my Xtool scale FFJeff will be putting up some pics here in a couple hours.

I had a blast Saturday.  The fishing wasn't what I had myself all excited about, but I still had an awesome time.  That was my 2nd DK Open, and I don't see myself missing one until Dan doesn't do them anymore.  It would be REALLY cool to have a turn out like that on the west side...HINT. HINT. Thanks to everyone for the cookout.  I'm already trying to talk people into going to LSC soon.  I am hooked.

DAN...had a great time, though the fishing wasn't what we expected, we can't complain we were still on the water and not battling wind/rain/and 6ft'rs. Having put on many functions, I know how much work you and the wife went to, so I thank you for that effort and look forward to
wetting again at one of your gatherings.  It was also was great to meet alot of the folks that I've been reading their blogs all winter.

See you on the water,
capt charlie

Hello all ... I agree Dan did a great job putting this tournament together. You can tell where Dan's heart is. ;D He loves fishing and seeing others enjoying the sport. He put this together with all the bases covered..everyones safety, respect for the environment and respect for rules for the sport. Gotta love your unselfishness Dan, sticking yourself with me and helping Mike and Veronica enjoy a very special trip together. I admire Mike for taking his granddaughter with him to let her know that girls can enjoy the sport of fishing just as much as the guys do. Thanks to all of you who spoke to me, and made me feel welcome and not out of place being the only woman.

My wish to all of you this season is a lot more safe and enjoyable fishing!  8)

I'm glad everyone is happy including tater chip wagensomer. marya... I thought it was you that was stuck with me  (so bad capt charlie has us married off - hope my real wife doesn't read this!?! ;) ) Actually, 'sheephead' mary and I just work together. Same building anyway.

Veronica is my buddy! Fun watching Mikesmiph enjoying his first real tuna boat wakes!! Way to get at 'em Mike!! Great job again on the food to you and moto!!! Really topped of the event.

Thanks to Bobber for all the pre-tournament assistant work!

And WOW a 7-4! That's huge! Hope you got some good pictures of that beast. Too bad it wasn't caught Saturday during the event. I would have made a great picture for the event report.

Fastest way I know to get my boat on the trailer by myself. I have to teach Veronica to drive it on yet.

Mary can get into my boat anytime. I saw first hand last fall what she can catch. Great to see you again marya and meeting a bunch of guys on here. I also had a great time and want to thank Dan and everyone else for a great day. I fished with Team Houston and he did a great job guiding, although the net job on the 4lb 15ozer was a little off LOL. Had a great time with a great guy.

Thanks Dan for another great event. I had a very pleasurable day on the water with LGmouth. You didnt have to remind me of that net job. I already had it repressed, lol. You were great to fish with and am looking forward to my new Wavespin.
